Obama administration has described India as very important global
players and said it is engaged in intensive dialogue with India

Indian Ambassador to US Ms. Meera Shankar told official media
correspondent in Washington,Indo-US relationship has evolved into a
comprehensive partnership of mutual trust and confidence and the two
countries are prepared to take it to a new level. She said US views
India as a growing world power with which it shares common strategic
interests. The two countries also share an interest in fighting
terrorism and in creating a strategically stable Asia.
The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh now on his way to the United
States has reached Geneva. He will leave for Washington today. Dr.
Singh will address the US Chamber of Commerce as well as the Senate
Foregin relations committee tomorrow. He will hold discussion with the
President Barak Obama and other US top officials on Tuesday.
Special correspondent S. Mathias accompanying Prime Ministers,reports
from Geneva,a Memorandum of Understanding on measures to counter
terrorism is on the anvil. Washington will give more equipment to
India so that the use of cell phones can be pin pointed in remote
areas. Cooperation in the field of security is expected to be closer.
The four-day visit of the Prime Minister to the US is on the
invitation of President Barak Obama to further strengthen relations
between the world’s two largest democracies. Dr. Singh will be the
first foreign leader to be hosted as state guest by the Obama
administration.

Prime Minister said in a statement that a sustained and dynamic Indo-
US relationship is essential to meet the global challenges of the 21st
century. He said international terrorism, climate change, global
economic slow down, WTO talks, disarmament and non-proliferation will
come up for discussion during his meeting with President Obama.United
States has sought to strengthen its relationship with India.

His second leg of his tour the Prime Minister will travel to Port-of-
Spain the capital of Trinidad and Tobago to attend the Commonwealth
Heads of Government meeting.
