Hi, everyone...
Wow. So fast. It's already 3 years since Ka Kui passed away.
For starters, I'd like to say that this is not a tribute: probably more
suitably named as a commentary on Beyond's works. But in a sense, I guess
it can also be a tribute; one for all of Beyond, and not Ka Kui alone.
This year, rather than writing about, and in praise of, Ka Kui, I have
chosen to write about Beyond, since Ka Kui was (and arguably is) a member
of Beyond. And in that sense, I have chosen to incorporate their works as
a part of it. Therefore, the following posts will be about Beyond, their
works and their history, from my perspective.
First, a couple of disclaimers and a few rules:
I do not know all. If you know of any information that is to the contrary
of what I write, then you are probably right. Being born, and having lived
in Vancouver for most of my life, with little access to the channels of
information that many of you might have, I am at a disadvantage in that
respect. Oh well, that's life I guess.
I also would like to note that any opinions enclosed in these postings are
primarily (unless specifically stated) my own, and not those of Beyond,
Vicky, beyond-l, or my guitar. If you like them (my opinions), fine. If
you don't, well, that's what makes people different.
Finally, I would like to declare this and the following postings as
patchware/ob-postingware. If you like and/or appreciate this series of
postings, send me a patch for my Red Cardigan (flags are nice), or else
(preferrably) write a posting to beyond-l about recent news you hear. I
expressedly give permission for members of beyond-l to use this material in
their homepages, and hereby donate the copyright to these postings to
beyond-l. Any commercial agencies that choose to put this in their
commercial publications will either have to supply a newsfeed to this list
(ie. post the articles pertaining to Beyond from their commercial
publications to the list) or similar. After all, many people on beyond-l
are news-deprived individuals.
Please note that this posting is being made on beyond-l (which is finally
back on-line again), and to soc.culture.hongkong.entertainment. This won't
be a problem with beyond-l members, but if you find a problem with my
postings, take your flames and stick 'em in your ear. I'm not in the mood
to deal with flames at this point in time, and any unprovoked attack on
Beyond, Beyond fans, or beyond-l will be either ignored by me, or given
hellfire. Pray that you don't end up with the latter option. You have
been warned.
For newsgroup readers: I don't know how many postings in total. However,
from glancing at the recent postings on s.c.hk.e, there don't seem to be
too many Beyond postings anyways. Therefore, I think Beyond is a
relatively unique string. [Beyond] can be used as the identifier string.
Too bad there is too much muck on the newsgroup that I have to resort to
this. I appologize to beyond-l users.
Anyways, enough bull. On with the writing.
