Death Camp 01.
3.1.2. Prison B: It has an area of approximately 20 meters wide and 25
meters long. In the same way as in prison A, it is surrounded by a
hedge of bamboo spears acute and very tight. At one point, moreover,

3.3 The allocation of prisoners in the prison camp 01.
These prisoners were all either representatives of the higher echelons
of civil and military authority of the former Royal Lao Government, or
members of the royal family and Heads of the royal palace. Considered
by the Party as a potential threat to the foundations of the new
regime he has installed in the country, it was decided to put them all
out of harm's way. The prison camp 01 was built specially for them.
The prisoners arrived by three successive groups:
* The first group arrived October 28, 1977. It consists of 27

prisoners were ordered to build a common kitchen of 2.50 mx 3.50 mx
2m. They finished in a week.

Death Camp 01.
* The third group arrived Nov. 24, 1977 to 22 hours.

They are locked in the house No. 3 of the B prison, recently emptied
of its 11 occupants.

IV. Hellish life of prisoners in the prison camp of death 01.
In early March 1978, Sayavong Thao, head of the province of Houaphan,
provincial secretary of the party, accompanied by Captain Sone Chai,
chief of the provincial military police, the complainant Thongsa,
Chairman of Provincial People's Court, and Mr. Bounphet, commander of
the prison camp 07, drove 10 Vietnamese experts to inspect the prison
camp 01. Before inspecting the interior of the house No. 2 Prison A by
three experts Vietnamese Thao Ninh ordered the prisoners to sit,
motionless, his arms around his knees, his head bowed. Using
flashlights, the Vietnamese examined the place, especially the walls
and ceiling. While outside, their compatriots were all on the house of
a Vietnamese who was in front of General Insisiengmay Kane, said in
his tongue "Thoi" ("Eat, do not worry" ... ) Without doubt he had
noticed that the prisoner was being quietly chewing his rice! Soon
after, they came out again and went to the house No. 1. The inspection
of the prison A completed, the delegation went to the prison were
locked B where the king, queen and crown prince.
The active presence of Vietnamese experts demonstrates how
collaboration between the two communist parties, Laotian and
Vietnamese, is narrow. And many other findings we suggest that the
most important decisions of Vientiane are more or less inspired and
guided by Hanoi! (11)
4.1 The iron discipline of the prison camp 01.
From the earliest days, the commander of the camp, Thao Ninh, reads as
follows strict rules to prisoners:
1) All prisoners here are deprived of their rights as citizens.
2) The prisoners are under the direct responsibility, total and final
command of the camp.
3) Any soldier or camp staff has the right to use its weapons against
any prisoner who discusses his orders or commits any breach of the
regulations of the camp.
4) absolute defense for prisoners to have any contact with the king,
queen and crown prince.
5) Defense to speak a foreign language or dialect of the ethnic
minorities. Only allowed the common language of the Lao Loum ("Lao of
the valley" in relation to ethnic groups who live on the heights).
6) Every prisoner must speak loudly: The whispers are prohibited.
7) When speaking to a manager or other guards or escort, a prisoner
must sit down, arms around his knees and head bowed, must say "yes,
sir" to respond and must keep a distance of 3 to 5 meters!

before the check, and every morning at 5 o'clock in the morning.
4.2 The daily life of prisoners in the prison camp 01
a) Prisoners in prison A
Of the 38 prisoners in prison A, 5 are permitted to work outside
namely! While all others are locked inside dark houses No. 1 and No.
2, 24/24 and 7 / 7, except late Saturday afternoon when they are
allowed to wash out a quarter of an hour!
From mid-May 1978, the fate of five of the seven prisoners of the
house No. 1 was still worse, because their legs are now hampered by
three devices 24/24 to torture:

Namely those prisoners permitted to work outside, two (Khamphan
Thammakhanty and Amkha Khanthamixay) are assigned to the communal
kitchen. Their main task is to make bad rice, eaten by worms, and
prepare soup made in the first month, only salt, leaves and wild
roots. Later, they may, from time to time, season with a few cans of
Vietnamese origin.
The other three (Phoumy, Thong and Phimpha), they are assigned
primarily to cut wood for all households in the camp kitchens.
Other tasks still borne by the five prisoners
- Cultivate and maintain the small ray of rice, cassava field and a
small rice paddy. (Note: the harvest of this last point does not
benefit to the prisoners!).
- Pounding rice and performing other services to staff the camp.
- Get over their shoulders once a month, bags of rice (in all about a
ton), deposited at 700 meters from the camp by 01 prisoners from the
camp 07.
28 December 1978 to June 1980, the camp authorities have killed a
buffalo to feed everyone (staff and their families included!). A
framework has suggested that it was merely to remind the prisoners a
taste for fresh meat!

Death Camp 01.
Towards the middle of April 1978, Thao Ninh, the camp commander 01,
read to the prisoners the following statement:
"Because of the ravages of drought throughout the country, the ration
of rice for each prisoner will now 4OO grams per day, and if
necessary, will be reduced again." Note: Given the poor quality of
rice distributed, roughly once cleaned and washed, there will in
reality no more than 250 grams!).
Similarly, his wife is a nurse, has announced that henceforth the few
drugs available to it will be reserved only for really serious cases.
From April 1978, a few garden vegetables and cassava improve a bit
ordinary.
b) prisoners from the prison B.
The three prisoners are subjected to total isolation. It is prohibited
for any prisoner of addressing them.
* Crown Prince:
Every morning he goes to get the daily ration of rice for three at the
warehouse. It has to do with either the superintendent or with Xay
Pheng's wife (the politician). This rice is very bad, rotten, eaten by
worms in general! Ration of salt is given to him for a week. Each day,
he cultivates a small garden beside the house No. 3, grows vegetables,
peppers, eggplant, etc. ...
* Queen:
Its main task of cooking for the three.
* King:
It helps the garden, manufactures its own pipe, piles of stones into a
bench. He planted three papaya papayas that give superb.
On 1 January 1978, New Year's Day International, the two cooks were
able to offer three prisoners from the prison B, through the sentinel
understanding this particular day, a very precious gift in the
circumstances: a plate rice covered with a layer of condensed milk
boiled! In return, the next day, the Crown Prince has received
permission to send them a bunch of vegetables from her garden, always
through the sentinel. Inside the boot, three-mustard salad feet are
tied together by a string of bamboo. According Thongsouk Tiao, the
younger half-brother of King, this means that all three are suffering
a lot and are in great sadness.
During the year 1979, from 11:30 to 14:30, rest for others, when the
sun is at its zenith and pat very strong, the King and Crown Prince
are driven by a soldier to go weed the rai or repair the fence of
cassava field, often in places where the slope is steeper.
In mid 1979 he was assigned to guard the Crown Prince of a buffalo.
One day, about noon, before going to eat, he tied to a tree. Behind,
unbeknownst to him, treacherously, a soldier set him free. On his
return, not seeing the animal, the prince went to make the report to
the soldier on guard. The latter reproached him so suddenly and with
anger, being unable to keep a buffalo. The prince, ripping his shirt,
showed him his chest, saying: "It's not worth shooting in the air,
pulls on me." The Queen was close, very scared, "cried the prince not
to discuss. The prince then said that would die for her deliverance.
It was better than endure such harassment and torture.
Note: It turns out that this young soldier is the very man who killed
his Excellency Touby Lyfoung a bullet in the heart, a Saturday of
April 1979! It was a very young soldier ethnic Lao Theung 15 or 16
years.
From mid-1979, the health status of three prisoners had deteriorated
considerably.
One day in early January 1980, while the prince was bedridden,
seriously ill (he died two weeks later!), The King was led by the same
soldier to go weed the reason in ordering him well do. The king said
to Luang Prabang, he had several opportunities to work in his fields
and rice paddies. The young soldier shouted then: "Do not argue,
you've ordered to work, then work!".
