As the old saying goes, "want a peaceful family dinner, don't talk politics and religion," i.e., can't rationalize irrational matters.

Politics and religion should be added as cardinal sins that the human mind has yet to overcome. This is precisely the reason why those in power (kings, queens, Popes, etc,) have been able to exploit them to enslave humanity.

I hope the Jim Jones massacre does not repeat on Hmong.

It actually doesn't bother me, because I think people can believe what they want. Similarly I don't think old school Hmong are stupid for still believing and doing kev cai qub, or others doing kev cai tshiab, or other Hmongs being atheists.
If that family thinks it's appropriate for them to do that, then cool. It might be a symbol of them leaving kev cai qub and doing something new, or it might be what they now believe, or it might be just their opinion and not part of their new belief.
