Have been doing some traveling here in the mainland-- Indianapolis and
Washington, DC. Spring has sprung but it's still a little chilly and a
little dreary, and some trees are just having a little green
appearing. But I'm surprised that Hawaiians here are so well adapted--
unlike my generation where I never can seem to get rid of my "foreign"
accent. But we're still here-- just that we have not got a focal point
to rally round. I'm using "Hawaiians" in the less specific sense. Up
here it really doesn't matter how long you've lived in the islands.
People lump you into one big bucket once they find out you're from
Hawaii. Some even wonder what part Hawaiian Obama is, since he is from
Hawaii. He is an away from home favorite son.
