Hello. I started learning esperanto on my own about 18 months ago and
I got to the point where I can read messages in this group and
sometimes get the gist of things without a dictionary. I've had enough
of textbooks and studying vocab, but I would like to get better. In my
college library I found one book, I forget the name, that had dozens of
essays about esperanto. Some had esperanto on the left page and
english on the right and lists of uncommon words with english
translations in the margins. I found that setup very helpful. It was
enjoying to read since it only took a second or two to understand a
passage or word I didn't get.

Could I get any recomendations on other books setup like this, with all
the text in both english and esperanto? Anything like this is ideal
since I doubt there are enough printed to satisfy me until I can read
without the english.

Thanks,
Devin Bayer

I don't know the specific book you've mentioned, but you can consider
the magazine _Kontakto_. Some articles are written with a limited
vocabulary of about 500 words, and others with a limited vocabulary of
about 900 words. You should be able to read these articles, or at least
learn the vocabulary you need.

While I don't know of books that have both English and Esperanto text, I
can recommend you that you obtain popular books that are published in
both languages.

I learned Esperanto using the book "La eta Princo". Due to the high
popularity, also for schools, "The little Prince" was translated into
many languages (original French). try: 82.182.30.179/inko/056-2.pdf

I also consider the monthly magazine "Monato" quite useful (no English
text here): www.esperanto.be/monato. From them you can also order books.

ok.

Ho, dankegon! kaj kiel danko mil kisojn al vi! :-) (hm! kiun mi tute ne
konas...)
revigas min.

Ĉu ne malpli erariga:

I don't know of many books like that, but you might want to check out
some extremely simple readers written for students. A few that fall into
that category are

Gerda malaperis! (There's an English-Esperanto wordlist available for
this work, as well.)
Ili kaptis Elzan! (A companion book)

La krimo de Katrina
Vojaĝo kun Katrina
Katrina malfruas
Kion ajn

You might also want to take a look at the Esperanto League for North
America's book service. Go to http://www.esperanto-usa.org/ , click on
the button in the navigation column that says "Books & Other Materials",
and then look at either (or both) of "Books for children and youth"
(which also contains books suitable for beginners) and "Readers".

Amike salutas vin
