The land looks identical.

The music on one of the videos could be Irish or Scotch.
The drums make it ideal for slip shank dancing and it has the
sound of bagpipe type harmonies.

Actually, I think it was not the geography so much as
economic opportunity. People like your grandfather,
who possessed highly marketable skills, were relatively
few amongst the throngs of Eastern Europeans arriving
at Ellis Island between 1885 and 1926. Most of them
could not find work on the East Coast, but all on them
(every adult) had do have enough money for a train trip
to Chicago. The U.S. Immigration requirement to board
a ship bound for New York was 20 U.S. dollars. Chicago
and Lower Wisconsin (Cudahy, Milwaukee) was a booming
industrial region at the time in response to the invention
of the refrigerated railway car. Anyone, who had the sto-
mach for that kind of work, could find work in Chicago's
meatpacking industry.
