002 B-H - BUGOJNO - July 18th, 1993
DESCRIPTION OF REPORTED CRIME: Killing of civilians.
TIME AND LOCATION: July 18th, 1993, 9:00 p. m., the village of
Vucipolje, Kaici hamlet (cca 3 kilometres east of Bugojno).
SUMMARY OF REPORTED CRIME: B-H Army soldiers launched an attack
on the villagers of Kaici hamlet (the village of Vucipolje) on
July 18th, 1993, around 9:00 p. m. The civilians (women, children
and elderly people) hid in Marko Zivko's basement. The civilians
knew that their situation was grave, and they tried to save their
lives by leaving Kaici. Ivica Zivko (52 years old) went out of
the basement but was immediately shot by two bullets. B-H Army
soldiers dragged the wounded Ivica back to the basement where
women dressed his wounds and tried to stop them from bleeding.
That same evening, Frano Zivko was killed while he was trying to
leave the neighbouring basement. On the following day (July 19th,
1993), B-H Army soldiers allegedly took the wounded Ivica Zivko
to hospital. During the entire night July 18th/19th, 1993, a
guard stood in front of the entrance to the basement and he did
not let the civilians out even when in need of going to the
bathroom. On July 19th, 1993, around 8:30 a. m., all civilians
were threatened with fire arms and forced out of the basement.
They were accommodated in D. K.'s house. That same day, a B-H
Army soldier came to the house, cursed the civilians and fired a
machine gun barrage inside of the room where they were held,
forcing them to throw themselves on the ground in order to avoid
bullets. No one was hurt, but the shock was tremendous: the
children shouted, women and elderly people cried. In the
afternoon hours (July 19th, 1993) another B-H Army soldier came
into the room and ordered D. K. to go to the front-line and get
three wounded B-H Army soldiers out of there, otherwise they were
going to slit his son's throat. His son's name was R. K. and he
was seventeen years old. After D. K. fulfilled their command, B-H
Army soldiers ordered all Croats to leave the B-H Army controlled
territory.
