However this is not how ithe railway is perceived in Tibet. The

haveanly road or a road to heaven. Tianlu was the name given by the
Tibetan workers who worked on the railway.

In short, it says the Tibetans are expecting the arrival of this
wonderful railway because it would bring the warmth to the borderland.
The train will bring them blessings and make everything better. The
tibetan version of this song is quite popular. A quick search in Baidu
with "天路藏语版" turns up over 10,000 websites. The particular site has
over 250,000 hit.
To be sure, the railway does not bring economic benefits as quick as
expected. For example, an Economist correspondent had pointed out that
Tibetans are disappointed improved transpoertation between Tibet and
the rest of the country has yet to drive down the price of goods as
much as expected. Inflation is at present a problem in all of China.
But the expectation, by itself, indicates that the Tibetans accept the
legitimacy of the government and trust the government. If the PRC
government has no legitimacy in Tibet, there will be little or no
expectation.
The popularity of the song among of the Tibetans may appears to be
insignificant, it, however, poses a strak contrast with the picture
that the exile community would want the world to believe. Probably the
exiles know that themselves. A fissure is developing betwen them and
the other Tibetans. May be this is why they unleashed violence in
Lhasa cobtradicting the wish of the DL.

Given the nature of the oversea complaints about China and the lyrics
of hte song, its easy to reach the conclusion the song was part of
PRC propaganda. However, it is not the case. The song is the results
of individual artists. And Tibetans were literally responsible for the
song's success. Their inspiration, their talents as well as their
capitalistic spirit are responsible for the song's populairty, inside
and outside of Tibet.
The sotry began with two musicans, one song writer and one lyricist
traveling along the then still unfinished Qinghai-Tibet railway. They
talked to the Tibetan workers there. They were astonished to find out
that the railway was
called by the workers as TianLu, a heavenly road. In addition, an old
woman also told him that she understood the railway was built
specially for the Tibetans. The two musicians were inspired. They
wrote the song.
But selling the song was a big problem. No one wanted to sing the
song. Most of them were not interested. Some thought the singing
rights fee was too expensive. Since this song was about Tibet, the
musicians figured that may be Tibetan singers were more likely to be
interested. So, they waived the singing rights fee to entice 巴桑, an
excellent female singer, to try out the song. She liked the song a
lot. And the song became a part of his performing reportoire. The song
was now popular in Tibet. But it was still unknown in the rest of
China.
Well, another Tibetan singer was responsible for making the song well
known all over China. She was Han Hong.
She used to be a popular singer. But she got older and she became less
popular. She was no longer invited to participate in performances. For
more significant events, she was refused although she was willing to
perform without fee. She had a problem. One among her group heard
about the song and found that the monopoly rights fo the song was
still avaible. He or she then suggested Han Hong to buy the monopoly
rights to the song and sang the song free during the upcoming Spring
Festival. Han Hong did. And this time her proposal to be a part of the
Spring Festival performance was accepted. The rest of the story. Han
Hong is successful and the song is popular all over China.
