All I know is that the state existed around the time of the Sung and Chou eras.
I would like to know more about the culture, history, prominent figures etc.
ANY information would be grateful.

Even those of us who have a decent knowledge of Chinese history have a
problem keeping track of the historical events attributable to the
Sung and the Chou Dynasties or any dynastic house for the matter..
You will have to provide more clues and details as to why you are
interested in the Chu of Ch'u (never heard of them) and from those
clues, maybe come up with a plausible indentification.

That's tough. Take a look at any Chinese painting, even those going
back 2000 years ago. The only way you can tell its age is to know
when it was painted by a particular artist. The content provides
almost no clues to tell it from another similar painting painted a
thousand years later. Given this long history of anything in China
even if we can find who the Chu were we will only be able to point to
you where to look. You will have to do your own homework.

for what I know,
Chinese paintings are not all the same,
The earliest survival Chinese painting on rice paper
are from Sung Dynasty.
A few survived Chinese painting from Tang are
on silk.
earlier than that I guess we can see them mostly
in tomb murals.
as for the painting skill,
It also evolves from time to time,
the painter of Ming dynasty can imitate the
style of the Tang dynasty, but the painter of
tang dynasty sure didn't know how to paint
a ming dynasty style.
Chinese paintings(as all other arts) reflect a
lot of the social condition(political, skill,
material, technology. ideology) when it was made.
They are beautiful riddles of our long lost past.
I don't have any deeper knowledge about Chinese
culture than most others.
But I do enjoy the beauty, depth and diversity of
the arts that our ancestors had created.
