( 6 ) The First-day session of Special General Meeting of USDA (2002) held

Yangon, 20 Feb - The first-day second session of Special General Meeting of the
Union Solidarity and Development Association (2002) was held at the Pyidaungsu
hall of the USDA Executives Management Training School of the Central Public
Relations Unit in Hmawby on 19 February morning.

It was attended by the secretary-general of USDA and secretaries, CEC members,
secretaries of state/division USDAs and delegates of
state/division/district/township USDAs to the meeting. Member of the
secretariat of the USDA U Khin Maung Thein presided over the meeting with CEC
members of the USDA U Soe Tha and U Aung Thein Lin as members. Daw Nan Mya Su,
executive of Kawkareik District USDA in Kayin State, acted as master of the
ceremonies, and Daw Zar Zar Nwe Yin, executive of Magway Township USDA in
Magway Division, as joint master of ceremonies. Secretary-General of USDA U
Than Aung explained matters related to works on the special general meeting
(2002) of USDA and the formation of groups for holding state/division wise
discussions. After the master of ceremonies had announced the list of group
members, the first-day session came to a close at 10.50 am group discussions of
state/division were held in designated places.

Contract to supply communication and safety equipment signed

Yangon, 20 Feb-Myanma Livestock and Fisheries Development Bank and FISCA Group
entered into the contract for supply of communication and safety equipment to
livestock and fisheries entrepreneurs under hire-purchase agreement at Yangon
Trade Centre on Upper Pazundaung Road in Mingala Taungnyunt Township at 3 pm
today. Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein made a
speech on the occasion.

Then, Deputy Managing Director of MLFDB Lt-Col Zaw Win and General Manager of
FISCA Group U Zaw Min spoke. The deputy managing director and the Managing
Director U Zaw Weik exchanged documents of the agreement. Present on the
occasion were Deputy Minister for Livestock and Fisheries U Aung Thein,
directors-general and managing directors of departments and enterprises under
the ministry, the Deputy Managing Director of MLFDB and members of the Board of
Directors, the Managing Director of FISCA and officials, livestock and
fisheries entrepreneurs and others.

e-National Task Force meeting held

Yangon, 20 Feb- Meeting (1/2002) of e-National Task Force was held at the
Myanma Information, Communication and Technology Park this afternoon with an
address by Chairman of e-NTF Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs
Brig-Gen Thein Zaw. It was also attended by Deputy Minister for Social Welfare,
Relief and Resettlement U Hlaing Win, departmental heads, officials of Myanmar
Computer Federation and work committees of e-NTF. First, Minister Brig-Gen
Thein Zaw made an opening speech and officials concerned reported on their
respective works. Then, the meeting came to an end with the concluding remarks
by the minister.

Myanmar Nurses Conference held

Yangon, 20 Feb-The second session of the 47th Conference of the Myanmar Nurses
Association was held at the Institute of Nursing on Bogyoke Aung San Street
this morning. It was attended by MNA (Central) Chairperson Daw E Babaro and
executives, delegates of state, division and township branches of the
association, members of association and guests. Daw E Barbaro, who presided
over the conference made an address. Then, the report of the executive
committee was read out by Secretary of the Assocaition U Khin Maung Win and
financial statement by Joint-Treasurer Daw Kyi Win and they were approved.

Next, the chairperson and executive committee members presented honorary awards
to the outstanding nurses and certificates of honour to the division and
township branches well-wishers that donated cash to the association and
wellwishers. The third session followed at the same venue at 1 pm.
Vice-Chairperson 1 of the association Daw Khin May Win chaired the third
session and made a speech. Delegates from state/division level branches read
out respective reports, followed by a general round of discussions. The first
day sessions came to an end in the evening.

( 7 ) Contracts signed for purchase of marine products

Yangon, 20 Feb - Ceremonies to sign contracts for purchase of marine products
are being held at Myanma Fishery and Livestock Fair 2002 on Upper Pazundaung
Road. Today, Myanmar Sun Rise Co Ltd and Matsuoka Co Ltd of Japan signed a
contract worth US$ 2 million for purchase of 300 MT of sea prawn and Annawa
Fisheries Holdings Ltd, Yuzuna Fisheries Ltd, a contract worth US$ 210,000 for
36 tons of fish and prawn with Yong Brother Co of China, and a contract worth
US$ 130,000 for 24 tons of fish and prawn with Landauer Ltd. In addition, other
three companies of the fair signed contracts worth US$ 2,340,000 for purchase
of 360 tons of marine products.

Military code of conduct and extempore talks contests held

Yangon, 20 Feb - The opening ceremony of military code of conduct and extempore
talks contests (central level) to mark the 57th Anniversary of Armed Forces Day
(2002) was held at the Ministry of Defence this morning. Present were Chairman
of the Work Committee for organizing the contest, presenting prizes and finance
Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Chairman of the Subcommittee for
organizing the contest Director of the Directorate of Resettlement of the
Ministry of Defence Brig-Gen Aung Thein, Defence Services Camp Commandant
Brig-Gen Hla Aung Thein, members of the Work Committee and the Subcommittee,
the Panel of Judges and contestants. The chairman of the Work Committee
delivered a speech on the occasion. A total of 408 contestants from Defence
Service (Navy), Defence Service (Air), the Camp Commandant's Office of the
Ministry of Defence and commands and LIDs took part in the military code of
conduct contest at Aung San Hall on Parami Road in Mayangon Township.
Altogether 195 contestants participated in the extempore talks at Yan Nyein Aye
Hall on Parami Road, and at the Camp Commandant's Office.

Yangon, 20 Feb-Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung accepted 15
computers and stationery worth US$ 24,000 donated by World Community Service
(WES) Committee and Rotary International District 2760, AICHL Japan at Diamond
Jubilee Hall here this morning. Present on the occasion were Minister
Counsellor Mr Kiyoshi Koinuma and Second Secretary Mr Masahiko Teruya of
Embassy of Japan, officials from the Ministry of Education, member of Rotary
International District 2760, AICHL Japan Mr Kenji Ishikawa, Chairman of
International Service Mr Nobuhiro Morino, Chairman of World Community Service
Mr Kenichi Ohira and members, Managing Director of Myanmar, Tokiwa Cooperation
Mr Fumiyoshi Sakurai and others.

( 8 ) Applications invited to Myanmar Maritime University, Myanmar Aerospace
Engineering University

Yangon, 20 Feb- The Myanmar Maritime University under the Ministry of Transport
will be opened in August 2002. A total of 100 students each for six five-year
courses for BE (Naval Architecture), BE (Marine Engineering), BE (Port &
Harbour Engineering), BE (River & Ocean Engineering), BE (Marine Electrical
System & Electronics) and BSc/BSc (Hons) (Nautical Science) will be accepted at
the university. The Myanmar Aerospace Engineering University under the Ministry
of Science and Technology will be opened in August 2002. The university will
accept 100 students each for three five-year courses for BE
(Aerospace-Propulsion & Flight Vehicles), BE (Aerospace-Avionics) and BE
(Aerospace-Electrical Systems and Instrumentation).

Those who got 340 marks and above in the 2001 matriculation examination can
submit applications to the Application Scrutinizing Board (Higher Education
Department of Lower Myanmar), not later than 15 March 2002. The application
must correctly be prescribed with the number of former application sent to the
University Entrance Scrutinizing Board (Higher Education Department of Lower
Myanmar), the Roll No of the matriculation examination, the exam centre and
total marks. Notifications for Myanmar Maritime University appeared in 9 and 21
December 2001, 13 and 16 February 2002 issues of the newspapers and
notifications for Myanmar Aerospace Engineering University in 14 and 22
December 2001 and 13 and 16 February 2002 issues of the dailies. For more

Myawady TV to use Palapa C-2 satellite

Yangon, 20 Feb - Beginning 1 March 2002, Myawady TV will use Palapa C-2
satellite in transmitting its programmes through satellite. Persons who use
satellite dish will have to switch to Palapa C-2 satellite at 113 East. Other
facts about the satellite are as follows: Beam Asia Beam Down link frequency
3706.5 MHz Symbol Rate 5.926 MSYM/SEC FEC 3/4 Polarization Horizontal
Modulation QPSK No change is required for those who use ordinary antenna.
Myawady TV continues to broadcast its programmes from Asia Sat-2 till 28
February 2002.

Leadership seminar for PWDS opens

Yangon, 20 Feb - The opening ceremony of " The 1st Leadership Seminar for PWDS
in Myanmar " organized by Social Welfare Department and Myanmar Christian
Fellowship of the Blind (Khawegyan) was held at Kandawgyi Palace Hotel this
morning, attended by Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement
Maj-Gen Sein Htwa.

Also present were Regional Development Officer Mr Topong Kulkhanchit of
Disabled People's International Asia-Pacific Region and members,
Director-General of Social Welfare Department U Sit Myaing, officials of the
departments and volunteer organizations, principals and administrators of the
Training School for Disabled and participants who took part in the seminar.
First, Regional Development Officer Mr Topong Kulkhanchit made a speech and
General Secretary of Myanmar Christian Fellowship of the Blind U Thein Lwin
explained the purpose of holding the seminar. Then, Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa
extended greetings and the ceremony adjourned. After the opening ceremony, the
minister posed for a documentary photo with those present. The seminar will
continue till 22 February.

Workshop on entroscopy diagnosis and treatment held

Yangon, 20 Feb-With the help of Myanmar Medical Association (Mawlamyine),
Gastro-enter logical Group of Myanmar Medical Association (Central) held the
workshop on diagnosis and treatment with the use of entroscopy at the MMA's
Second Annual Conference at General Hospital in Mawlamyine on 16 February. Mon
State Peace and Development Council Chairman South-East Command Commander
Brig-Gen Thura Myint Aung made an opening speech. Then, Head of Mon State
Health Department Dr Thein Win Naing and Chairman of the Gastroenterological
Group Professor Dr Khin Maung Win spoke.

Present were related specialists of the Ministry of Health, specialists of
Mawlamyine, Hpa-an and Thaton General Hospitals and enthusiasts. Professor/Head
of Department Dr Khin Maung Win gave talks on hepatitis, Professor/Head of
Department Dr Thein Saw on diagnosis with the help of ERCP, Professor Dr Tin
Tin May on painkillers and gastric ulcer and Surgical Specialist Dr Tun Oo on
bleeding on upper digestic tract, and replied to quaries raised by those
present. A specialist showed entroscopy treatment given to 24 patients with the
use of audio-visual aid, followed by a general round of discussions.

( 9 ) Myanmar Fishery and Livestock Fair-2002 continues

Yangon, 20 Feb - Myanmar Fishery and Livestock Fair-2002, jointly sponsored by
the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, continued
for the fifth day at Yangon Trade Centre on Upper Pazundaung Road here today.
The booths at the fair were crowded with the visitors. On 19 February morning,
Pyi Phyo Tun Co Ltd, Annawar Hlwam Co Ltd, Sea Wolf Co Ltd and General Myanmar
Co Ltd signed contracts worth US$ 1.1 million for purchase 575.78 tones of fish
and prawn with companies from Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, England and
Australia. The fair will be kept open from 9 am to 5 pm till 22 February and
admission is free.

Drug traffickers sentenced

Yangon, 20 Feb - A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit
and local police force, acting on a tip-off, searched a bus with number plate 7
Ka/1764, which is plying between Shwekyin and Yangon, in front of Nyaunglebin
Police Station on 28 August 2001 morning. The authorities seized 7.8384 kilos
of marijuana inside the handbag of passengers Myo Aung and Thant Zaw Lin (a)
Phoe Tayoke.

In connection with the case, Nyaunglebin Police station filed Myo Aung, 27, son
of U Pwe of Kwinthaygyi Village, Nyaunglebin Township, and Thant Zaw Lin (a)
Phoe Tayoke, 25, son of U Mann and Chaw Sein, 40, son of U Hla Htwe of
Yanmyoaung Village, Kyaukkyi Township, under Section 15/16 (C)19 (A) of
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. Toungoo District Court handed
down 20 years' imprisonment on Myo Aung under Section 19 (A), 15 years'
imprisonment on Thant Zaw Lin under Section 19 (A) and five years' imprisonment
on Chaw Sein under Section 15 on 31 January 2002.
