= broken, and Duut = messenger,
together VognoDuut means

is by definition a VognoDuut.

and refers to the messenger who brings message
of defeat from the kurukshetra to pandavas.

Influx of patients in hospitals
Diarrhoea epidemics in Barisal region

Barisal, Apr 23:-The spread of diarrhoea in Barisal city and other parts
of the greater Barisal region in the last has brokon out triggering a sudden
influx of patients into hospitals.
More than 40 patients on an average have been admitted everyday to the
special wards for diarrhoeal patients of Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical
College Hospital (SBMCH) and other hospitals, upazila health complexes and
clinics of towns and upazilas of Barisal division.
An official of the Health Directorate said patients admitted in last seven
days for diarrhoeal attacks in 6 districts stood at about 500. The
Directorate also estimated that about 2000 people were affected by diarrhoea
since January, adding that only 2 or 3 districts regularly inform them
about the attack of diarrhoea disease.
The Barisal SBMCH admitted 8 patients on Tuesday, 12 patients on Wednesday
and 13 till 11 am on Thursday.
Dr. M A Malek, Civil Surgeon of Barisal said only one person died in Sadar
upazila and 254 patients treated in different public hospitals and health
complexes at the 10 upazilas of the district excluding Barisal City
Corporation areas and SBMCH from March 1 to April 20..
The upazila wise figure of the diarrhorea patients of Barisal district
treated at different hospitals in last 50 days were 71 in Sadar, 12 in
Babuganj, 56 in Bakerganj, 21 in Banarpara, 11 in Wazirpur, 26 in
Agailjhara, 18 in Gournadi, 13 in Muladi, 4 in Hizla and 22 in Gournadi
upazilas.
The Civil Surgeon of Barisal claimed the situation is under control and
claimed that 107 medical teams are sent to the affected areas with
sufficient oral and intravenous saline and other medical equipment and
medicines.
Rashida Begum, a resident of Balur Math slum area of Barisal city and
attendant of a child patient said "I came to SBMCH Wednesday with my eight-
year-old child. Initially we gave him primary treatment at home through oral
saline, but when his condition deteriorated we brought him to the medical
college hospital".
She predicted that her child might have contacted diarrhoea due to
contaminated drinking water supplied by the BCC at his school or by taking
roadside foods.
"Diarrhoeal attack in hot dry summer season is very usual. People trend
to drink more in the scorching heat and possibly because of drinking
contaminated water they become more prone to the attack," explained a
medical officer at the diarrhoea ward of SBMCH.
Doctors examining diarrhorea patients at the SBMCH said the simple and first
line treatment at home for any diarrhoea patient is taking oral saline to
regain body fluids. If the patient vomits, he or she should immediately be
hospitalized, they said.
Shoals, chars, island, offshore, coastal and slum areas of Barisal division
are the most diarrhoea-prone areas the health directorate sources said who
forecast a further increase in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the weather forecast said the temperature and humidity are
likely to decline over the next few days as nor`wester may hit within fer
days in this regions.
Patuakhali
Our Patuakhali correspondent reports that 300 persons were affected by
diarrhoea in the last week in the district.
Diarrhoea claimed five lives including three in Galachipa upazila and two
in Kalapara upazila of the district last week.
The victims are Abdul Mannan, 60, Salam, 55, and Marjina, 7, in Galachipa
upazila and Rani Begum, 32, and Sanjida, 10, in Kalapara upazila.
According to Dr Nurun Nahar Begum, Civil Surgeon of Patuakhali, the attack
is very usual and put the reason down to rising temperatures since March and
claimed the situation is under control.
As many as 101 medical teams are working in the affected areas. The stock of
saline in all the hospitals is also satisfactory', she further claimed
UT prisoner dead
A under trial prisoner (Hajoti) died on Wednesday night at about 8 pm in
Patuakhali General Hospital six days after handed over to police with severe
injury of mass-beating.
The victim was identified as Shakil, 26, son of Shahjahan Khan of west
Ramnagor village under Surjomoni union of Baufal upazila of Patuakhali
district.
It was learnt that a motorbike of Fazlul Karim of Nurainpur village of the
same area had been stolen on October 2, 2004.
Fazlul Karim lodged a case as complainant against Shakil in this connection
with Baufal police station.
On April 15 the complainant and his associates found Shakil alone at
Indrakul Chowrasta of the area at about12.30 pm. They mercilessly beat
Shakil and then handed over him to Baufal police station on that day.
Seeing the critical condition, police admitted him to the Baufal upazila
health complex and given first aid sent him to Patuakhali jail after
producing before the court on the next day.
Shakil was rushed to Patuakhali General Hospital with police guard from jail
hospital after his condition deteriorated on April 17 and expired on
Wednesday night.
A case was lodged in this connection with Baufal police station.
