Veterans of soc.culture.baltics will be saddened to know that the once prolific contributor to our forum, Tapani Hietaniemi, passed away last month at the age of 51. Tapani taught at the University of Helsinki as well as at institutions of higher education in Tallinn and Tartu. His field of specialization was Max Weber, about whom he wrote his doctorate.... more »

I'm presently listening to a program about the spread of swine flu in Finland. It claims that Finland has a well organized program which has ensured that virtually the entire population can and will be vaccinated againt swine flu, while Estonia seems not to have taken the pamdemic seriously and thus has neither sufficient vaccine nor a nation-wide... more »
