I posted this - I am very upset that such a mind as Bichevskaya is
turned to such filth.

It is the how you sell a lie - blame the world. Simple as it is - we
screwed and there are now people who'd like to find - it is not us
somebody OUTSIDE screw us.

I hope this is not a war propaganda - coming back

Well, listen to Vello - I always disagree with him but he is right most
of time: Russia is a very big country we have real dangers like Nazism.
I hate even to think about it but it is true, my hope however is with
REAL Russians like captain Kolesnikov.
I am reluctant to say this - but Zhanna with all due respect is Dura.
Never in my life I was on my knees.
Nor my country.
You can follow me - I am proud that Russkies beat the world in education
not showing that they have the biggest gun on the block.

This is where patriotism and nationalism turn to extreme ideologies.
I agree with her that Russia has been badly affected by "marxism-
leninism", but it was done by Russians themselves. Portraying
Russians as some sort of nation chosen by God is one of old techniques
that can only work for people with limited ability to think for
themselves. It is not a top secret that most of Russian population
was converted to Christianity by force... However, I didn't get what
is the fundamental difference between Bichevskaja and Shevchuk. Is
there a "third kind of Russians" that don't subscribe to nationalistic
and patriotic ideas.

As far as I understand, he was trying to save his crew, but Russian
government did nothing to help. He did the right thing, but I can't
understand how this makes him "REAL Russian" as oppose to "unreal".
Any decent person (Russian or not) would try to save people who he/she
is in charge of.

Here is a pretty good interview with Shevchuk of DDT just before his
concert in Vilnius today (ignore the text, go directly to video that
is in Russian):

Thanks, DDT rocks as ever. I am just happy that they turned to be so
stubborn and do not retire.

Interesting. I haven't heard of Grebenshchikov for 2 decades, and now
his position is criticised by Shevchuk. I didn't know that this ex-
alternative part of Russian music industry had an extensive political
argument...and a stone to "Mashina Vremeni" garden -)). I never had
any respect for Makarevich and very little for Bob. Good interview.
Shows that Shevchuk is an honest person.

Stylistically, he doesn't rock anymore. He used to when DDT was an
underground band from Bashkiria promoted by Gena Zaicev, a leader of
Piter's rock club at the time. What he is doing now is a typical
Russian pop-song with sincere lyrics.

Dima, I am an old bag - he'll be rocking for me till I will be carried
away. In some incredible way he closed a gap between Vysotski and rock.
I stuck with old rock anyway - Zeppelin, Deep Purple etc.

He cartainly appeals to you and clearly his voice and style are very
similar to Vysotski. When I first heard DDT I thought they were
rockin', and I didn't see any parallel with Vysotski then. But of
course "rocking" can be defined in a variety of ways.

From what I gathered, Russian women used to have a thing about
military men in uniforms.

Actually, here is a nice political song by Makarevich:

I didn't know that Makarevich has also become "new age Vysotski".

Why would you say it?

If you want to see criticism of the current regime, you can find even
better examples than this. My favourites are:

The DDT song already posted by Vlad:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBx8HIY94r0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGS7xOauLAY
ДДТ - В гостях у генерала ФСБ

and Boltyankaya:

http://www.v8video.ru/video/view.php?eID=f2ec1a37b44eb401b7041541344
Гаечка - Screws

As far as Vysotsky goes, neither Makarevich nor anybody else can even
touch him - Vysotsky was one of the best poets ever. He was a true
genius and a giant. He had this unique ability of being an actor-poet.
For example, if he were to write a song about, say, speedskating, he
assumed the role of a speedskater to such a degree that he described
his sport better than any skater ever could. And if he wrote about
physics, he spoke more authentically than a professional physicist. If
he were to describe the pain of a mother that has lost a child, he
would do so more eloquently than any such mother could. And so on. He
could immerse himself in any situation and describe it as if he had
actually been through it.

And his mastery of the words was unmatched. Here is an example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBIjvsusqsQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKyh4gnhJzs
http://video.yandex.ru/users/v3834400/view/653/user-tag/%D0%BF%D0%B5%D1%81%D0%BD%D1%8F/
Ballad about my childhood

Text:

http://www.spasi.ru/biblt/bis.htm

That's poetry!

And here is one of his less famous songs:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzKex0l8rjI

Text:

http://www.kulichki.com/vv/pesni/pod-soboyu-nog-ne.html

And here are 3 immortal songs about war:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sDunY6ApMs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpQD2A3vh58

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gca71uLd4I4

Nashi mertvye nas ne ostavyat v bede,
Nashi pavshie - kak chasovye:
Otrazhaetsia nebo v lesu, kak v vode -
I derevya stoyat golubye!

This alone is a truly amazing metaphor... Better than anything that
Pushkin ever wrote.
