By the way, I have seen Serbian soldiers make similar gestures.
It's my fault. I admit it.

Brave the curfew? Doesn't the mean *violate* the curfew?
As in "demonstrate why there has to be a curfew"?
No wonder people think Australians are bigots.

The Arab who probably slurred his mother/sister was lucky to get just
a gesture in return.
Is he an Israeli soldier or a member of the Pallie
"security forces"? Either way, who gives a rat's tush?

I would imagine soldiers have been making similar
gestures throughout the ages. Ever hear the verse
the legions used to sing about Caesar? And they
LIKED him.

Why would they? It's not as if this rag is a source
of great intellectual observations.

Why should they?
Look at the whole caption:
Note the caption on the paper also stated only:
"Check this out ... As Palestinian shoppers brave the
curfew to shop, an Israeli soldier shows his finger,
in the divided West Bank town of Hebron. Photo: AFP"
So, he goes shopping and he gives the finger to....
whom? What was said? If it was something on the
order of qus ummak, he should be commended for
responding with great restraint to a comment for
which an Arab would have drawn blood.
In any case, who gives a rat's tush?

Actually, I wrote this (following), too :-)

I know it, you know it, but I like to point it out :-)
Especially to those who pretend otherwise.

The assumption - as with EVERYTHING concerning Israel, is that he
initiated it.

<<Is he an Israeli soldier or a member of the Pallie

TorresDumbass claimed in a later post that he was
giving the finger to some woman. Yeah, right.
I have an old Nat'l Geog from shortly after J'lem
was unified and the barriers removed; it shows a
photo of an Israeli soldier buying something from
an Arab shopkeeper (in eastern J'lem, I assume).
If there was a problem, neither the article nor the
photog documented it. But at that time, the Arabs
were making lots more money off Israel than they
are today. I wonder how much of their outrage is
due to no longer being on the Israeli dole and not
receiving any more free health care?
And incidentally, where's this DISGRACE that
Dimbulb blabbered about?

I'm feeling rather confused now....

1. The poster posted from prodigy.com, a yank news-server, not an Australian one.
2. The photo at the SMH news-site never said anything about "disgrace of an Israeli
soldier", this part was obviously concocted by the poster, who is quite likely a
yank unless prodigy have an open news-server.
3. Making a generalised comment assuming "Australians are bigots" on the faulty
information that you based it on is bigotted in itself. Wouldn't you consider that a
tad hypocritical?
It's really very simple.
Mad suicide bombers who murder Jews
= GOOD!
Young Israeli soldiers who flip the bird
to an unknown recipient for reasons unknown
= BAD! VERMINOUS! EVIL!
That clear up your confusion?
Deborah
Would you trust the "news" from this yellow tabloid? If so, please consider
purchasing a nice bridge in Brooklin from me, real cheap.

Serbian soldiers? That's like saying Jumbo Shrimp or Honest Politician.
Serbians are all cowards, and always have been. That's why so many are
Muslims.

The photo montage came from AUSTRALIA.

Did you see the collection of pictures?

On the contrary, I would consider you somewhat illiterate - or deliberately twisting
what I said into what you wanted me to have said.

I suppose I should have clarified that *I* do not think Australians are bigots.
But there does seem to be an extremely loud minority of Australians who seem to be making
it their life's work to change this image. They will fail, however.
Susan
Mmmmmmmmmm
Are you aware that I am part Serbian ^$^%$^%$^%#. Just look up there war
record in WW2 and WW1.

Although I have met Serbians that are Roman Catholic overwhelming a
Serbian is best described to you as a Greek Orthodox.
If he was a Muslim he would not really be a Serbian.

Ah, you mean like Alex? No surprise there, as he is ALWAYS full of shit :)
Mickey
> The photo montage came from AUSTRALIA.
Never saw the paper, only saw the website, seemed pretty innocent to me, but then being in
Perth I don't have the benefit of having been able to see the paper without going out of
my way. That being said, some whining lefty journo deciding to print a story (assuming it
was as bad as you are saying) does not reflect on the rest of Australia. There are many
stories I see that sicken me because they are nothing like the mainstream thought of the
country (and anyone honest would say the same is true of free media anywhere, it's always
opinionated by the author. As opposed to non-free media (Iraq for instance) where it is
always opinionated by the leadership of the country).. There may be such a thing as free
press, but there is very rarely such a thing as an honest press, fortunately I think ours
comes closer than most with only a few aberrations to root the equation.
> Did you see the collection of pictures?
See point above, there was no collection on the site in relation to the incident you are
talking about.
> And did I say that?
No you said : "No wonder people think Australians are bigots." which is effectively the
same thing. Not going to get pedantic about this, the intention was obvious, it was a slur
against the country as far as I'm concerned. Whilst many in here (and I'd guess most of
whom are not Australian) throw shit at the Israelis, I and many others do not, and have
gone to great lengths to stick up for what they're going through and point out that you
can only poke so many times before you get bitten (even if they do seem to be taking it to
extremes and possibly in the wrong direction at times, but they are definately being
provoked into it, not the other way around). That is why I take offence when someone
seemingly slags off our country because of one article in one paper.
> On the contrary, I would consider you somewhat illiterate - or deliberately twisting

On the contrary, I think I read what you said quite well.... "No wonder people think
Australians are bigots" seemed quite self explanatory to me. How would you have taken it
if after those children were killed (which time?? I don't know, there's been a few) in
Israel's retaliatory strikes against the Palestinian terrorist element I had said "No
wonder people think Jews are baby murdering bastards"????? I haven't said that, because
I'd feel like I was attacking a people that mostly had nothing to do with the point in
issue.
Starting to understand where I am coming from???

Yes it does.... Entirely... The world is just as insane as I originally
thought.... Although that puts a whole new tangent on insanity, whilst you are
obviously taking the piss out of the lunatics that feel that way, there really are
people out there that believe that stuff. And that really scares me.....

As I say in another post:
"I suppose I should have clarified that *I* do not think Australians are bigots.

their life's work to change this image. They will fail, however."
I see now where I caused you to thikn I believed something I did not - sorry for that. Also
sorry for even the implied insdult to the rest of Australia/Australians everywhere.

Tell me about it. While you're at it, tell me about
the $14 billion we are going to GIVE Israel, and
when Santa Claus is going to drop presents down
the chimneys of the local synagogues on his Xmas
rounds this year. And how the moon is made of
camembert.
