Seamstress Japanese American May Asaki Ishimoto,
spents the early part of her adult life in a World War
II Japanese Interment camp. While interned her mother
died at the age of 48. During her WWII internment,
May would met her future husband, Paul Ishimoto,
whom she would married in April 1944. After World
War II, when Mrs Ishimoto's daughter ballet teacher
joined the National Ballet, Mrs Ishimoto was
hired to make costumes for the newly formed
company where she worked for eight years. Later
in the 1970s, Mrs Ishimoto became the wardrobe
mistress for the American Ballet Theater(ABT)
until she retired in 1990. In 1997, her husband
died. She continued living an active life until
she died of a heart ailment on Nov 20,2009
at the age of 90. She is survived by
four children, four sisters and four brothers,
nine grand children, and seven great grandchildren.
