John Liu,42, became the first Asian American ever to be elected as
a New York City Controller. Liu won the election by nearly 500,000
votes - overwhelming his Republican opponent Joseph Mendola 76% to
19%.

Peter Koo, a Republican, defeated Yen Chow for the 20th District
seat in Flushing vacated by John Liu.

Margaret Chin, 56, who was born in Hong Kong will be the the first
Asian-American elected to represent the city's historic Chinatown
in Manhattan.

In 19th District in northern Queens, Democrat Kevin Kim
lost to Republican Dan Halloran by reported 1,314 votes in a debate
that had racial, religious attacks.
