UNSCOM unjustified provocation
By Dr. Khudier A. Ad-Duleimi
UNSCOM has made an unjustifiable step toewards Iraq by sending in-
spection team compased mainly of nationals of countries whose gov-
ernments harbour ill-intentions against Iraq.
To further provoke Iraq UNSCOM put the inspection team under the
leadership of a notorious figure whose previous record indicates
that he is reckless figure who lacks any sense of responsibility
and decency.
On previous occasions Scott Ritter, an American marine officer,
acted like a running dog showing no respect to Iraq's national and
security concerns. He was far from being a professional whose be-
haviour shows that he is serving the interests of US administration
and its agenda towards Iraq.
Iraq has warned the international community against US domination
on UNSCOM and its warning should not go unheeded. The blame must
fall squarely and the head of UNSCOM Mr. Richard Butler whose be-
haviour on previous occasions raises questions with regard to neu-
trality.
Iraq should no longer tolerate a clear dominance of American and
British personnel on the activities of UNSCOM inside Iraq because
previous experience has shown that these personnel are serving the
objectives of their relevant governments.
The American and British governments make a secret of their ill-
intentions towards Iraq. They say publicly that they harbour po-
litical objectives against Iraq trying to bring about a political
change in the country that would allow the installation of puppet
regime in the country that could be used by the two governments to
blunder the riches of Iraq as it is the case with some oil-rich
countries whose oil revenues recycled to western banks with the
complicity of their relevant governments.
To achieve this objective the US and Britain condemned a nation of
22 million citizens to an unprecedented, inhumane and unjust em-
bargo that claimed the lives of thousands of innocent Iraqi child-
ren due to lack of food and medicine.
Therefore, without seeing higher representation to other countries
such as France, Russia and China which have no prejudice against
Iraq, UNSCOM will remain hostage to US and British agenda which
aims at inflicting as much damage to Iraq's infrastructure as much
as possible to subdue the country to their will.
But Iraqis are determined to defend their independence and their
right to freely choose their political system away from the dic-
tates of foreign powers history team with notorious crimes against
other nations.
The people of the world have decided through their national assem-
blies that the UN should distance itself from American and British
objectives and put a clear timetable that indicates when its activ-
ities in Iraq will end.
The current state of affairs that has been going on for more than
seven years should end and Iraq should be rewarded for its full
cooperation with the UN inspection teams trusted with the task of
eliminating weapons of mass-destruction nature.
Iraq should not be forced to face two bitter choices either to
accept the premeditated procrastination of some UN inspection teams
under U.S. pressure to do so or face U.S. military aggression be-
cause they will make no mistake in making the most honourable
choice, that is confronting U.S. aggression regardless of the enor-
mous sacrifices in men and material that would be made.
For the UN to maintain smooth working relationship with Iraq, it
should guarantee a balanced representation of other countries in
the inspection teams which are sent to Iraq to do routine inspec-
tion works. It is almost certain that Scott Ritter came this time
with the intention of trying to enter certain presidential sites
which are of limits to spark off another standoff between Iraq and
the UN to be taken by the US as an execuse to launch its long
awaited aggression on Iraq.
