i was concerned about the poverty generated from the lack of hydration
in many parts of the world. so i proposed a solution on usenet many
years ago but which has not been applied as far as i know. the
solution seems simple. an inverted v shaped perspex lid over a dark
channel containing sea water at a gradient (as in the roman aquaducts)
would through direct sunlight cause evaporation and condensation down
the edges of the lid and run into side channels which can divert the
pure water for agricultural or other uses.
any thoughts on this?

Berlin airlift of bottled designer water, forever.

Overpopulation is cured by depopulation not greater overpopulation. 1
million scumbags drinking 2 quarts/day = 500K gallons/day. Yield of
one pint water/day-ft^2 Perspex = 4 million ft^2 of Perspex.
If you want to irrigate crops, ha ha ha. What do you do with the
residual brine and salts if you do not live on the seashore?
Wear stillsuits.

Ignorance is not a form of knowing things. There are only engineering
solutions. All other "solutions" are lies and criminalities.
An engineer's first task is to identify the true case of the problem.

Didn't the Germans develop a plan like this? (depopulation, not miles
of Perspex)
Who know's Al, there may be a Nobel Prize for you like the one
Kissinger got.
He was a big fan of depopulating "useless eaters" as he called them in
spite
of the plan being previously tried on Jews.

Put in food.
Hey, according to the media, salt is bad for and hence will help with
the plan above!
The Israeli's converted stretches of Negev desert into arable land by
spreading tar-like mixture over the sand. I saw that in the late 60's.
Whether they planted the seeds etc UNDER the tar first I wouldn't
know. This idea of yours, as, is not new. It's used in lots of arid
areas using a plastic bag draped over a hole in the sand, held in
place with stones round the upper outer edges. A can placed under the
plastic in the middle on the hole, and a small stone on the centre of
the plastic above the can. The hole has any damp stuff like veg or
fruit peel. Urinating in the hole (remove the plastic FIRST!) helps. I
suppose if one was in danger of dying of thirst .......?? Desert
Condenser?

I get the impression that "as" wants something on a larger scale that
will irrigate crops with evaporated sea water and is wondering why
we haven't seized on his idea, rushed out to the deserts and begun
digging roman aqueducts to the sea with modern earth moving
equipment.
He's hoping sea water will run uphill from the Mediterranean to the
Sahara instead of flowing downhill as the freshwater Nile does.
Perhaps he should change his name more appropriately to "ass".
often the true cause is lack of civil communication.
