If you are interested to see and/or purchase top quality contemporary
African art, visit the current exhibition at
Barnard College/Columbia University in New York City. The exhibition is
part of the college's effort to pay more attention to African issues and
African things. In collaboration with Sankofa International Foundation,
Barnard College is exhibiting work of famous African artists such as
Helen Sebidi of South Africa who also sells at Sotheby's Johannesburg;
the renowned Berenice Michelow, who has represented her country South
Africa in many international shows; Zimbabwe's best known sculptor,
Henry Munyaradzi and Kenya's promising surrealist, Meek Gichugu.
Most art work in the exhibition is for sale. Prices range from US$275 to
US$7000.
30% of exhibition proceeds go towards organizing an anti AIDS education
Puppet Show in Zimbabwe, being targeted towards young women between the
ages of 12 and 20.
The exhibition is being held at the Altshul Auditorium, Barnard College
of Columbia University, West 117 Street and Broadway in Manhattan, New
York City, until Friday, November 14, 1997. It is open daily including
