DMX ON LAM OVER CAR CRASH: COPS

HEAT'S ON: DMX is one of the hottest rappers around, and a recent night out
in New York has made him even hotter - with cops anxious to question him
over a traffic accident on the West Side. - AP
Police were seeking to question platinum-selling hip-hopper DMX after he
allegedly slammed into a car full of women and then fled - snarling that he
wouldn't pay for the damage.
The raspy-voiced rapper tried to blame the other driver for the West Side
accident and even asked a pal to take the heat before vanishing, according
to one of the women in the other car.
"I have just lost all respect for him," passenger Shana Webb told The Post
yesterday. "He can't even be a man and stick around.
The Ruff Ryder's rough ride unfolded shortly after midnight yesterday as DMX
drove away from a party at Float where he celebrated the launch of Missy
"Misdemeanor" Elliott's new record label.
After his Ford Expedition smashed into the side of Aisha Smith's Honda
Accord on 12th Avenue near 56th Street, he got out of the vehicle spewing
obscenities, she said.
"He was screaming, 'Why don't you look where you're going? What were you
doing?' when he was the one who hit us!" said Webb, an intern at Vibe
magazine.
"He told Aisha he didn't have a license and then comes up with all these
excuses like, 'I'm from New York, so I know how to drive.' But we're all
from New York, too, and we didn't cause that accident."
Webb said the rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, then turned to a male
friend in the back seat of his car and said: "You have to take the heat for
me on this. I don't have a license."
The women tried to get insurance information from DMX. When a woman in his
car handed them some numbers, Webb said she wanted to see an actual
insurance card.
"F- - - you, b- - - -! I'm not paying for s- - -!" the rapper shouted before
jumping in the Ford and speeding off, according to Webb.
Police sources said one of the women wrote down the license plate number of
the Ford and it came back to Simmons. They were trying to track down the
star to ask him about the accident.
His spokesman, Angelo Ellerbee, said he had no comment because he had not
been able to reach the rapper, who lives in Mount Vernon.
DMX was arrested in May near Buffalo for marijuana and driving with a
suspended license, and is appealing a 15-day jail sentence for the
infractions.
The Department of Motor Vehicles said his license is no longer suspended.
His rap sheet also includes 1999 busts for assault and weapons possession.
He was cleared of a rape accusation in 1998 and a stabbing in 1999.
His albums - "It's Dark and Hell is Hot," "Flesh of My Flesh - Blood of My
Blood" and " ... And Then There was X" have all hit triple-platinum, and
he's set to star opposite Steven Seagal in a new action flick.
