Appropriate Wedding Gift

My 5-person family has been invited to the wedding of a long-time friend's
daughter. Is a $250 cash gift appropriate, or should it be more?

It all depends on where you live, if you live in a more 'financially
strapped' area, you can give less. If you live in NY or CA, then
that's about what it costs to be invited to a wedding these days. . .

You also have to take into account whether you're going to be at the
reception or not. If you elect to go, add more money as the butcher,
the baker and the candlestick maker all are involved in one way or
another with the show (and not a very good one at that) and since
those people have been paid a princely sum, the bride is going to need
to recoop those losses. . .
