I've looked and looked on the web. Does anyone know of a website that has
lots of different types of wedding cake pictures? This would help greatly!

Not a web site, but have you seen Martha Stewart Living magazine's
wedding issues? They come out twice a year and one of the most recent
issues featured cakes. They tended toward the unusual but I'm sure
there were some plainer, more elegant ones.
My cake will have rolled fondant icing, which is used in a thinner layer
than buttercream is, and is not so sweet. The cake designs I've seen in
rolled fondant tended to be rather spare so as to show off the
smoothness of the icing.

Gosh, there was a thread on just this topic about a month ago. Either here
or in Alt.wedding. I posted a list of sites and so did several others.
Maybe you could find these old posts in the Dejanews archive? Here are a
couple of sites that I know of:
http://www.schroedersbakery.com (pictures of all Wilton cake styles -
probably NOT what you want!)
http://www.ices.org (International Cake Exploratory Society - look for the
cake pages in the newsletter section)
http://www.edibleart.freeserve.co.uk/pictures.htm
also try searching for the website of "American Cake Decorating" magazine
(i forgot the URL) They have articles describing the different types of
icings and decorations.
