I'm getting married next April, and I had picked out bridesmaids dresses
in "orchid" (basically lilac), since I envisioned a light pastel color for
a springtime wedding. However, I was thinking about the church and the
reception hall recently; they both have fairly dark decor. My church has
a rich red carpet and dark mahogany woodwork, and the reception hall is
kinda similar. It seems to me that a pastel color would look bad against
that kind of decor. I asked a couple of my bridesmaids, and they agree,
after looking at pictures of both the dress and the church, that the
orchid would probably look awful, and navy would "go" better. Would navy
be a good color for a spring wedding? I was going to go with silver as an
accent color with the orchid dresses; would silver go well with navy? I
always see gold as an accent with navy. I haven't ordered the bridesmaid
dresses yet, but I would like to soon.

Am I obsessing about this too much? I know this is a silly detail, but I
get so wishy-washy about these wedding decisions sometimes...

thanks,

Navy is a fine color for spring, especially with lovely
springtime flowers. Personally, I'm not keen on metallics in
weddings, so I'm probably not qualified to comment on silver
versus gold, but in the abstract I can't see why one would be
inherently superior to the other with navy.

Best wishes,
Ericka

I think the gold versus silver thing depends on which goes best with your
dress. If you have a gold tiara or gold embroidery for example go for a
gold, but otherwise silver is less 'dressy'.

Either looks great.

(snip dark decor of the church).

Yes, you're obsessing too much, but that happens. It doesn't matter
what the walls and carpet look like. One does not plan one's wardrobe
around the furniture. A skilled photographer is going to take pictures
of people and do what is necessary to bring them out in the photo.

And consider this: if you dress your bridesmaids in the same dark
tones as the furnishings, they'll blend right in as in look lost in a
sea of dark.

Navy is not a spring color. It's a universally seasonal color when
used as accent, but as a primary color, it's not for spring.

Hope this helps
Noe
