Can't comment about RISDE or Ringling because of no first-hand
experience. U Arts, though, is a terrific place, buoyed by a significant
cultural renaissance in center city Philadelphia (stop laughing--that's not
a contradiction in terms). There's a new concert hall, a new theater and
several new U Arts college buildings under construction as I write. The
idea is to turn South Braod Street into the Avenue of the Arts with the
High School for Creative and Performing Arts (Philadelphia's "Fame") and U
Arts as the educational centerpieces. The more happenin' sections of
Philadelphia (South Street, e.g.) are just blocks away.
U Arts started a major in digital arts (computer animation) several
years ago and has benefitted greatly from the upgrade in facilities that
accompanied the Avenue of the Arts projects. There are collaborative
efforts with Temple University's film program and occasionally with Drexel
University in some projects.
Center City Philadelphia is lively but not overwhelming. My family and
I live about six miles from the center of town and we go in frequently with
little trepidation (no fear is silly).
Good luck with your decision!
