Hi! I'm a 20 yr old from Southern Cal who's still rather new to the bi
community. I have worked through most of the issues inside myself (for now
anyways) by talking with local support groups and the like. But now I'm
looking to have a _fun_ relationship with a woman. I've dated a lot men, but
it's beyond me completely how to meet women! Especially since I can't hang
out at the bars for another month and a half. So, if you're a flirt like
myself, please e-mail me! (gret...@fqw.com) Men can write, too, but I
prefer a babe. ;)

Warm thoughts for sluts everywhere,

I followed up to this, pointing out that it's sort of a personal
and that it might fit better in the newly formed alt.personals.bi.
Here's the letter in question - does it seem reasonable?

There's a new newsgroup called alt.personals.bi, which is where you
should be posting this article. Soc.bi frowns upon personals, and
you're as likely to get flamed as to get email from posting
personals here. The FAQ for soc.bi mentions these things - if you
can't find a copy of it, ask your news administrators where FAQs
can be found.

In article <2h4h3c$o...@gap.cco.caltech.edu> you write:

I do make a short weekly posting (sort of a mini-FAQ) that mentions
soc.bi and says: "It is *not* a place to post personal ads -- you
will get flamed if you do."

So far it is not high traffic but seems to be serving purposes within
the charter.

This is much more of a personal than an introduction. Personals do not
belong on soc.bi, they belong on alt.personals.* (including
alt.personals.bi).

Perfectly. Do I detect an "issue" here? Your response is perfectly
clear, and IMHO, not hostile or troubling in any way. I can't
imagine why you, Orc, would have to ask, unless something's afoot
(which it are - it are the thing at the end of aleg).

I was just thinking the exact same thing but *alas!* I cannot get
access for some reason. surely my school wouldn't filter *it* out and
yet still give us access to rec.arts.erotica ? Is there any other
reason I wouldn't get it ?

Well, any site can choose to carry or not to carry any newsgroup --
and newly created alt. groups are often not universally propagated.

If your site doesn't get alt.personals it likely would not have
alt.personals.bi.

I also have some evidence that, in this case, the command to create
the newsgroup did not reach all sites carrying alt.personals --
I plan to do something to correct this in the next week or so
unless someone on alt.config presents a strong argument to the
contrary.

I realize that my 'introduction' did come off as a personals ad, and I
apologize for that slant, however, with the amount of follow-ups that I'm
getting, I was wondering what a appropriate 'introduction' would be, or is
that also frowned upon.

It seems that this issue has been discussed in depth before my arrival on
this list and I'm very willing to carry on a discussion by e-mail rather
than irritate the list further.

This post may come of rather negatively, but let me say that I really have
enjoyed this list and the intelligent discussions within. I hope that my
initial faux pas will not color your opinions of me...

Have you been *reading* this group at all? I have seen a half-dozen
demuffinings in the last week or so. People introduce themselves all
the time. What makes it a "personal ad" rather than an "introduction"
is when you say things like (paraphrased from longer stuff in your post)
"babes, please email me." Frankly, why should we? Here's the
information about you from your introduction:

1. 20
2. S. Cal
3. "have worked through issues"
4. <implied> bisexual
5. have dated lots of men
6. want a relationship with a woman

What is there there to inspire anyone to write? What is there to *say*
in response to that? Sure, someone with the time and inclination can
come up with any number of questions about you (particularly given the
paucity of information in your introduction), but it would be nicer of
you to actually *introduce* yourself, by letting us know something
meaningful about you, or what you think. Then, those people that that
appeals to have a starting point for writing to, rather than having to
do all the work of getting to know who you are themselves.

For example, here's an intro I used about 7 months ago (a bit dated
(I'm 28 now, have four cats, etc.), but accurate then):

age: 27
sex: female
orientation: bisexual (discovered about 2.5 years ago, but I have a
strong feeling I've always been that way, just didn't know
enough nice women to discover an attraction)
relationship preference: polyamorous
height: 5'8"
weight: 113 lbs
hair: to-shoulder, artificially curly, brown
eyes: beautiful blue (so I'm told...*grin*)
skin: very pale, with freckles (courtesy of a redheaded mother)
siblings: one brother
parents: one mother (raised by just my mother)
cats: three (Death, Chloe, Flame)
current relationships: in love with one man, extremely admiring of one
woman, one male lover on hold, love several other
people of both sexes, lusting after several women
and one man
degree: BS in CS, 1987, SFSU
favorite programming language: LISP
programming area: user interfaces
current job: Q/A for Informix
shoe size: 9 narrow
bra size: 36 B
waist: 24
hips: 35
clothes: generally black, jeans and t-shirts, away from home. generally
none, at home.
sexual interests: giving or receiving oral, anal, vaginal; bondage-lite
(hoping for a female lover to wrestle with - the one
who said she would dumped me before we got around to
it); biting; pouring oil on the other person and
sliding around; probably lots of other things...*smile*.
public sex: too shy
PDAs: lots and lots
group sex: only with three, so far
hat size: unknown
interests: cooking, philosophy, dancing, puzzles, board games, word
games
hot tubs: definitely! we have to get one installed!
bed preference: waterbeds
favorite color: black (purple, for those who don't think black is a
color)
marital status: married, but in the process of being divorced - I'll be
divorced the same day I was married, Halloween
sexual relationships: approx. 27 men (I lost count, but it was close to
my age), 4 women
jewelry: silver (new necklace since this weekend - a nice scene with
trees and an opal moon)
jacket: leather (but "very femme," as my friends say...*grin*)
places lived: (born in) Suffern, NY; New Brunswick, NJ; Richmond, VA;
Milford, CT; Cromwell, CT; Killingworth, CT; Waverly, VA;
Richmond, VA; San Francisco, CA; Oakland, CA; San
Francisco, CA (and I'm *not* leaving!)

Can't think of any more personal details at the moment...*smile*...

It's fallout from a science experiment; I'm following up on a
particularly gratifying flamewar on soc.singles where the usual
crew of clueless newbies are shrieking about the evil soc.singles
cabal and how it's so mean and nasty for us to send flames when a
'please don't post personals' email will suffice. What I'm trying
to determine is whether polite replies, both posted and sent in
email, are visible enough to deter personals, and, to avoid
contaminating the test, I'm also avoiding flamage on other
groups.

The experiment is titled 'positive reinforcement' and will be
followed, if unsuccessful, by the experiment titled 'total
thermonuclear war', which seems to have been successful in the
past.

Can someone who seems to have offended get in on this? Apologies for the
previous posts; I thought it was okay to vent occassionally..

I pirated the following categories from skyler.. The results are mine.

age: 25
sex: male
gender: same
orientation: theory=bi; practice=heterosexual, currently sinful with SO..
hair color: red, prone to blondish following helio-exposure
skin color: translucent, lobster following prolonged helio-exposure
eye color: blue
height: 6'3"
mass: 190 lbs
surface area: enough to provide for adequate friction when necessary
volume: variable
energy: usu. several kilocalories/hour
gamy: as I mentioned above, cohab with SO
bra size: not applicable?
hat size: dunno
interests: human behavioral patterns (I'm an anthropologist);
population ecology; Darwin; human evolution; spontaneous
preparation of stir fry, or chili, or most any food with
a bite; Star Trek: The Next Generation (Picard has a
stellar crew, in case you didn't know); miscellaneous and
sundry other stuff..
relationships: since high school (9 years ago): 2 hetero; one great
(current), one not so great. Went four years with just
the bottle; the sex was great, but then science has shown
us that masturbation elicits the most powerful sexual
response.. Had a difficult time separating myself from
that damn bottle. (Things that make you go "Hmmm...")
habits: clothing: T-shirts and Dockers, everyday.
Work Boots (Redwings), black, everyday.
Hat, .45s (Houston .45s, pre-Astros, well-worn), everyday
Leather or Denim jacket, when needed.
the occasional pipe; Guinness Extra Stout, as often as
possible; Music: I do a Rock and Roll stint at a local
station.. Don't really care for the music we play, but it
pays. Personally? The Waterboys are essential; Elvis
helps sometimes; Falco eases the stress; CDB and
Confederate RR are cool, as is Sammy Kershaw; numerous others.
group sex: ain't neva' done that. (You'll have to imagine the
Northern Maine accent).
pets: used to have a cat, then a dog (the kind of love you can feel.
I mean powerful. Then he had to up and die. Just great.),
then another dog, and he had to up and die, too. Lymphatic
cancer. Ugly damn way to go.
Currently No Pets Allowed.. ASAP - I plan on a huge Shepard.
My favorite critter.

Mostly I sit and read. And read. Some say boring.. I say it is in the
interest of economy of motion.

Desperately in need of bi people in this lousy community. The Lambda
group rarely has anything good to say about bisexuality. Usu. they cop
the typical stereotypes to make themselves feel better. Lots of prejudice
around here, in my experience. If you ain't gay, you ain't welcome.
Unless you are willing to fall for the predatory crap: "You have the most
beautiful eyes..." "You know, you are the most beautiful man I've seen
come here in months..." and various similar themes. I must say that I
have encountered more bias from gay men than from lesbians. We have some
extremely cool lesbians on this campus, and I am grateful for them.

"Real Bisexuals" :

...I think the word "bisexual" is over-used, misused, and abused,
with the results being great assaults upon _my_ own identity!
Yeah, Clarice, so you're bi, they say. So you must be a swinger
or confused...but the worst is "Oh, I went through THAT PHASE too."
Not to mention "But everyone's bisexual, aren't they."
So to simplify everything I've made up "Clarice's Real Bisexual
Certification Kit". It's got *the* questionnaire to ascertain
your claim to "bisexual" status... based on _my_ criteria of course.

First : Have you slept with, had real gutsy passionate sex with
at least 5 men _and_ 5 women?
Second : Are you absolutely equally passionately attracted to both
men and women?
Third : Have you had at least one succesful 2 yr relationship
with _each_ a man and a woman?
Fourth : Are you *fully* out to *everyone* as bisexual, and are you
active in the gay community as an out bisexual?
Fifth, and last : Are you at the present engaged in a stable and
ongoing relationship with one man _and_ one woman?

That's it! If you answered yes to each and every question you may
fill out the enclosed certificate : you _are_ a Real Bisexual!!!

As for the rest of you, find yourself another label!! You may want
to try "BI-CURIOUS" until you know what you are, and leave my label to me!!!

Well, whatever. Flaming clueless personals.posters isn't a
particularly satisfying task, even though it does work, because
they tend to stand there, looking confused, as the anvil drops
towards them. And when one of the Ignorati gets squished, it
seems to bring out a cloud of groupies, all buzzing about
self-importantly and whining "Oh, you're so *mean*, since it's not
*nice* to flame people who are too stupid to live!" (it's not that
bad here in soc.bi, thank god, but in soc.singles it's become a
plague.)

And, anyway, I just want to see people pay attention to the FAQs
and post the personals in alt.personals, where they bloody belong.
And the US Government has informed me that they would frown upon my
nuking PSU and wherever Delphi.com is located, and tells me that if
I don't return those ukranian MIRVS that they'll put the BATF on
the case. (I'm somewhat fond of LA, and would hate to see the BATF
convert it into a wasteland in a clumsy attempt to take the nukes
away from me.) So I'll be *nice*, and send them mail, and post
that mail, and just let the venomous bile accumulate so I can use
it one more satisfying targets.

Well, I'm back! Now, _this_ looks like FUN! I'll use Sky's format
[hope you don't mind...]

age: 24.5 yrs.
gender: male
sexual
orientation: "bi"
sexual
preference: Karl! :)
hair color: brown, even if I spend enough time in the sun :)
skin color: pink-beige, brown if I spend enough time in the sun
(no, not tan, brown - it's those genes from my
mediterranian ancestors)
eyes: hazel
height: 6'2.5"
mass: 6.09 slugs
weight: 190ish lbs
volume: probably not that large, considering I'm kinda dense :)
energy: 26000000000 Joules (when at rest)
gamy: well, I just tried polyamory, but I'm having trouble
parallel processing with my heart - (the CPU keeps
crashing (must be a 286) ) Any advice?
hat size: big (Ok, I'm a fathead :)
hats: Colorado Rockies & Cubs caps, various wintrish woolen
thingies, the Rain Hat (a Totes), the Tweed Hat, and,
most special, the Germay Hat (a blue cap that I hunted
all over Germany for - goes with...)
coats: of note, the Blue Overcoat I picked up in Berlin in a
second-hand shop where one paid for the clothing by the
kilo. It extends well below my knees (no easy feat),
weighs a ton, and has the curious property that it's
always warm, but never overly warm, regardless of
weather(well, almost...)
interests: They change with the wind, and at the moment, include
the wind, weather, atmosphere-ocean interactions,
computing, reading, various and sundry forms of music,
especially Balinese, cooking (I'm a great cook),
massage, lifting, biking, and Karl! (you could see
that one coming)
transportation: The Three B's - bicycle, bus, bummin' a ride from a friend
relationships: I must be _the_ late bloomer of soc.bi. Didn't become
physically attracted to another human being until I
was 18. Didn't become romantically attracted to
another person until I was 20, and didn't know what it
even was at the time (she and I are still friends; I
have, since then, wanted it to be more on occasion,
but I haven't seen Jan in years). Didn't start dating
until I was 23. Since then - 1 woman, (wanted to get
involved with another, but she didn't) 1 1/2 men (that
polyamory attempt has me soooo confooosed!!)
group sex: are you kidding?!
pets: my parents have two cats, Minx and Mischief. I will
own my own someday.

Sky's right! This is fun!

Ack. I hate sounding like a personals ad, but here goes nuthin':

Preferred Nickname: Bitty
Age: 18, for 3 more days
Sex: Not often. Hahahahaha. Female.
Height: 5'3 3/4" And I'm DAMN proud o' that 3/4"!!!
Weight: Up and down. A year ago it was about 160. Now I vary
between 120-135.
Hair: Redhead wannabe; I have long thick curly brown hair.
When I take the time with it, it can look great.
Personally, I prefer to hide it beneath a hat.
It also gets in the way of kissing and other...
activities. *blush* Cousin It, anyone? *grin*
Eyes: "Yer so full o' shit yer eyes are brown!" - my mom
Clothing tendencies: Dark. Jeans/shorts, with tees/tanks/sweatshirts.
"Holy shit. I've known you over a year and this is the
first time I've seen you in a skirt." - Joan
However, when I _do_ take the time, like I had to over
the summer for work, I WILL take notice of my appearanc
and wear *shudder* a dress. *blech*
Hats: Had this charming black hat. Gave it away. I feel
decidedly naked without my Red Sox cap. When bored,
or embarrassed over a particular game, I have been
known to branch into a Cubs cap or an Amherst College
one.
Sports preferences: BASEBALL.
Will also play soccer and volleyball and wrestle, but
RED SOX '94 says it all.
Oh. And watching cheerleaders is cool, too. *grin*
Music: Don't gag. Classical (Tchaikovsky, Gershwin; most
Russian and eastern european Romanticcomposers), Ragtime,
Sousa, B'way, both old and new (Carousel, Gypsy,
Song&Dance, Phantom,etc...), John Williams and
similar filmscores, some R&B, REM, Blind Melon,
Pearl Jam, some Metallica and related stuff, Billy
Joel, The Doors, and I'm being corrupted into
liking Pink Floyd (*thppppppt*), and I'm generating
a decent collection of comedy CD's (George Carlin,
Robin Williams, Dr. Demento, Ren and Stimpy)
Books: Fantasy and sci-fi. Dragonsinger and Ender's Game.
Stapleholds of life: Pink Lemonade Snapple and Oceanspray Cran-Grape
Hobbies: Writing. Flute, french horn, and I'm currently
learning trombone. (to the chagrin of neighbors!)
Playing cards. Watching movies.
Phrase of the week: Bite me, you moronic nerfherding fuckheads.
Relationships: 2 serious, motos.
About 1/2 dozen "dating" nonserious. Waste.
Amory: Monogamous, so far. Don't know if I could be otherwise
Group sex: Same as above. Maybe.
Education: Sophomore at Amherst College, probably going to double
in English and History
Love: The Far Side, apple juice, my baby brother Brandon*hug*
my walkman, Uptown Girl, Star Wars, the Civil War, that
GREAT shot of Elle Macphearson (sp?) on my wall, Sim
City, cutting class, the Red Sox, Internet, Pathetique,
David Letterman, Princess Bride, Meaning of Life, music
cartography, pop tarts, Kafka, Roger Clemens, the blond
at the G.R., and my best friend Ian, and my friends
Dave, DT, Twisted, Oreo, and Lollipop.

I'm a workaholic, I procrastinate like all hell, I have a warped sense
of tumor, have no clue what i want to do with my life, hate my family, refuse
to date, have a messy room, and feel like blaring the Imperial March right now.

Well, since several other people have done one of these, and since I
haven't posted much to the group in the last nine months and therefore
the newer people won't know that much of me ... I agree with Bitty
(that was your preferred nickname, n'est pas?) that these look all too
like personals, but ain't.

Name: Matthew Jude Brown
Net Name: Morven (sometimes called this in real life too, but not all
that often ...)
Usually Known As: Matt
Age: 20 (until the 7th of February ...)
Height: 5'11" - 6' (people insist I've grown lately)
Weight: About 15st-16st. No idea what that is in non-UK measures.
Hair: Black. Shoulder length. Thick. Slightly wavy. Some white
hairs (first at age 11 ...!)
Beard: Short, black with a few red hairs at the front. I'm not sure
I like it, but others seem to and it certainly beats shaving
from a laziness standpoint ...
Eyes: Blue appears to be the consensus, though it's a little dubious.
Clothing: Jeans (black). T-shirts (sometimes black), shirts etc. (ditto).
Black trainers past retirement age, or DM shoes.
Music: A mixture, though I can rarely afford CDs and I don't generally
use tapes, so I don't have nearly enough. The Orb, Tangerine
Dream, REM, Crowded House, Carter USM, Madonna are among the
cds sitting in my locker here at college, though I don't claim
that that is anything near representative!
Books: Fantasy, SF in the main: C.J. Cherryh, Gene Wolfe, Julian May,
Diane Duane, Nial Stephenson, Tad Williams, lots and lots and
lots of other stuff (I spend far far far far too much money on
books ...)
I have been known to read UNIX books etc. for bedtime reading.
Other Interests: Playing with computers; I spend far too much time sitting at
a Sun workstation doing very unproductive things.
Programming, too. Except the deathly boring assignments that
they hand out at college.
Antique and veteran cars (I help maintain and run a 1902 James
& Browne at college, including co-driving twice on the London -
Brighton Veteran Car Run.) Wish I could afford one of my own,
but it's a mite impractical ...
I'm a bit of a wannabe writer, too, mostly of sf/fantasy, though
I don't have the motivation really to get anywhere. Maybe
someday.
Going along to the London Bi Group and hanging round such as
there is of a bisexual community in London. There's more than
most places, which is hardly the same as *enough*.
Relationships: Currently and only since recently involved with a woman from
the London bi community who some people on here probably know,
so I won't say. Guess! Finding out that you don't have to
be someone's primary partner to have a good relationship.
Previous relationships: not many; more sex with men, more
emotional attachment with women, in general. All of them
have been bisexual.
Amory: Poly
Group sex: rarely. N >= 3 so far.
Education: Final year undergrad at the awful Imperial College. Studying
Computing, of course.
Random Extras: I talk too much, but listen too; I tend to get on with people
who are similar in this. I'm less wierd and fucked-up and
generally nutty than most people I know, but this says more
about my friends and acquaintances than myself ...
I'm a lazy horror in general, but prone to manic work if I'm
interested in something.
The World's Most Ticklish Person (TM)

Any more, come to BiCon this year, or fund my party attendance!

Us-3 are GODS! The Dead, Lynyrd Skynyrd,

I'm shy, wanton, warped, gentle, vicious, giggly, thoughtful,
spiritual, materialistic as hell, funny, moody, ticklish, mischievous,
huggable, and basically self-contradictory. Deal.

Y'know, this _is_ fun! Hugs to Kalaria and whoever started this in

Should add some small things (I HATE it when seeing something I forgot
but someone else didn't makes me go Oh shit! and smack my forehead but then I
forget again?):

Hm. Interests: Cosmic Wimpout, loving my friends (probably care about
other people more than is healthy for me), I'll probably be putting a
concentration on film into my English major (or British general hahahahaah
aren't I funny when in this kind of mood?!?!?!?), journalism, Good Quotes,
lemmings, tetris, theater ("Speak the speech, I pray you, as I have..."),
flying, making Dream Catchers, unicorns, renandstimpy, baking

I've had a serious problem in the past year trying to "be myself"
(shit happens when the one person who knew ME betrays all my trust and love);
I went into hiding and became the opposite of everything I truly felt (BAD
thing to do. BAD. caused TOO MANY PROBLEMS and i'm STILL suffering for it
now.) So what is this person INSIDE, this quiet little voice that is REALLY
me, but scared to death of the real world, relly like?

Kinda' quiet. (Yes, Colin, I know it seems hard to believe *grin*
But did you ever notice that the times I was happiest were when I was quiet?)
Worried about people. Used to be optimistic and loving and believed in the
"inherent goodness of all mankind" and ready to trust everybody. Learned
better the hard way, from the OTHER person who didn't know the meaning of
pessimism, who "dreamed the impossible dream" and hoped for a better world.
Right now, alt.bitterness is my style.
Still, the few people who know ME and whom I once trusted and loved
know me as someone who, if I'm going to love someone, I love them all the way,
usually a danger to myself. i tend not to hold grudges, another bad point in
my favor. well, it didnt used to be bad. It was this past year. I got hurt
real bad and thuis hurt everyone else whether or not I wanted to.

I am always existing in or around or with Music. Most important thing
about me. Even if there's no music playing (rare), tehre is music inside my
head. It never stops; I have actually sufferred overload of music twice;
another bad thing.
A good thing of late, that helps me know I'm back on the right track:
I'm creating my own music again. In my head, on the flute, or whatever, for
the first time since I "broke up" with my ex-bestfriend, I am hearing MY song
in my head. I lost track for quite a while.
But Ian and I agree: there is nothing without music. O' course, we
disagree on the music, but... I also associate everyone with a song or melody.
It's how I "know" somebody.

One of the things in life I enjoy is just being "one of the guys."
This was the third thing in my life I discovered that made me happy. (The
first was the moment I held my new baby brother in my arms and saw him open
his eyes. *foolish grin*)

I am always trying to make other people happy (SMILE, dammit colin!)
and even at my own expense (i burnt out BIG time last semester)

Other things f\rom other lists:

Bra Size: *thppppppt* I don't think so. Having a chest is one of the
damnedest annoyances ever. I remember fondly the pre-puberty
days...
Energy Level: High ("Wired", so Lukas calls me) in public; actually pretty
low when I'm contentedly being myself
Pets: What, you mean that animal of a teenage brother isn't a pet?
I've always wanted a little kitten, but I have this sneezing
problem. Had gerbils; died of brain tumors. (no joke.)
Other Nicknames: Evil, Bingo, Bits, Shorty, Sunshine (don't call me this one,
please.) Kalaria, Cousin It, Shadow, Oreo, Baby (hey, can
I help it if I was the only one who wasn't legal?) Perky,
(not anymore on THAT one!), Curly (Gee, it's always difficult
when imitating the 3 stooges), Lopez, Misfit #3, Wired,
Bitch, and a variety of others.
Things I WON'T do for money:
Random Sex. Umprotected sex. Murder. Steal. Eat in the D.C.
3 meals a day. Hurt somebody I love. (I do enough of that on
my own as it is) Give up my snickers' bars.
Things I WILL do for money:
Try me. I don't know.
Politics: Liberal, dammit.
Consd\idered one of the most liberal people in y high school,
yet more middle of the road here.
Turn-ons: Wouldn't you all like to know.
Honestly, I don't really know. Never enjoyed sex much; I was
generally in it for the otehr person. However, discovering
one of one's suppressed turn-ons while on a bus with a bunch
of strangers is NOT good. Particularly when she HAS a
boyfriend.

Messy handwriting, tendency to sing showtunes offkey, tendency to sing
anything ("Hello my name is Simon, and I like to do drawings") offkey when
drunk, disaster of a love life (*sigh*), No Car (someone had mentioned
transportation), Fudge frosying straight out of the can when stressed, hell,
anytime!, Film Noir, "My life is like an unorchestrated theme," have published
professionally for a newspaper (wait i mean written sorry my eyes are crossing)
and have had poems published, too: my pride and joy.

its the simple things in life i treasure:
music, my computer, my books, my friends, and Rush Limbaugh.
no shit, I'm kidding.

I intend on remaining single as long as possible; however, tehre's this
saxophonist who's looking damn good, so I may slip (I'm sorry Deb! may god
strike us both down!) howver Lorena is a goddess.

Pizza Toppings: Meat. Any kind. Broccoli. (Any kind?!??)Tortellini. (You
have NOT had pizza until youve seen antonio's) Sicilian.

I wear glasses; nearsighted.

Peanut Butter Cup ice cream. Need I say more?

Okay, this is getting ridiculous (procrastinating the pascal program i'm stuck
on, mais oui.)

Heh. Nobody expects the Pink Inquisition!

Strangely enough, I've caught myself liking Tool (unfamiliar? they have 1

sheer vengefulness. Like unto hammerblows to the head of the one who betrayed

In contrast, I've also been getting into Glenn Miller - square but funky.

The problem's not the holidays. I'm a member of what's called
an "eating club" here, which is kind of a combination social club,
dining hall, and study center, but is not a fraternity. Make

Seeing as how I know a good bandwagon when I sees one, here goes:

colored misc. shirts

three men (all one-time *pout*)
sexual interests: about everything except pain and power games, at least so
far

Since I have nowehere in particular to go these days, this seemed like a
good enough band wagon to hop on.

Name: Ben Edelman (Benj to a few, Benji to one only)
Age: 22, I think.
Sex: physically male, psychically - who the hell knows.
Height: 5'9" or so. Bigger if I dry my hair while hanging
upside down.
Weight: About 120. Yup, I'm a twig.
Hair: Lots, and proud of it. Rather red, although browning
more as the years pass. Down to slightly pat my
shoulders, although I'm due for my biannual cut soon.
Eyes: Two
Clothes: More often than not. If you can get me to wear a tie,
you must be pretty special. Own almost exclusively
jeans (for legwear) but in the market for skirts.
Looking for fashion advice for femmes.
Interests: Most sports, but especially baseball. Praying that the
Yankees will win another before I die. Own many baseball
cards, but haven't done much about that lately. I get
addicted to computer games _real_ easy. Also: poltical
maverickism, underground suburban exploration, and
confrontational activism when I can get out of bed in
the morning.
Relationships: Two serious (motos). Three somewhat less serious (2
motos and 1 motss) None currently (1/24/94)
Sexual Rel.: Four (motos) - not exactly the same four as above.
Amory: Well, now... I still envision a permanent monogamous
relationship in my future, but would be nonmonogamous in
some situations for now.
Group Sex: Haven't met the right group... yet ;)
Education: Princeton undergrad '93
Emplyment: Any offers??????????????????
Music: Depends on the mood. Usually hard rock/metal (Ozzy,
Metallica,... nothing much more thrash than that),
Alternative (Pearl Jam, New Model Army, the Cure -
mostly louder stuff), or classical (Beethoven, Mozart,
Dvorak's 9th is the _best_ piece of music in existence)
Books: Rarely have time. Anything that will make me laugh or
cry.

You can watch me smooch the groom. You can watch me smooch Mike.
Watching me smooch the bride would be, um, awkward, but I'm sure

Oh well, it's either this or going and getting horrendously drunk....

Prefered nickname: Sion. Write it, and everyone will understand. Try
saying it and you'll confuse everyone (including
me). "Simon" is unambiguous and legally
correct.
Age: 23
Sex/gender: Male
Height: 5'11"-ish
Mass: 52kg (don't ask why I use different systems for height & weight!)
Hair: Straight, long, mucky brown (but I'm trying to coax it into being
red). Beard similar (well, not so long).
Hat size: Slightly too small for my Black Hat, just the right size for
my Russian-dissidents furry thing.
Other clothes: Um, let's see. Black fingerless gloves, black sweatshirt,
black T-shirt, black jeans, long black coat. Oh, and a
bright orange scarf and blue and green boots. All this
varies.
Music: Moderately eclectic. Notably Mike Oldfield, Peter Gabriel,
Ozric Tentacles, Michael Nyman.
Books: SF, fantasy. Geoff Ryman, Guy Gavriel Kay, Samuel Delaney, amongst
others.
Other: Playing Mah Jongg, the odd bit of RPG, involuntarily running
SF conventions, sometime 'net addict.
Relationships: Two, both male, both stunningly disastrous, both about
two and a half years ago. Maybe that had something to
do with why they were such a failure....
Amory: Theoretically poly (see above)
Group sex: Hell, give me a chance to try one-to-one sex first! (-8

*cough* *splutter* Permission I neither can nor will give, but
encouragement might be nearer the mark ... Perhaps I should cast
myself in the role of local parish priest (although without any
tomfoolery with a choirboy or two after mass) - I could interview
the couple with a view to establishing their Serious Intent and
Compatability. However, after a couple years as the very
cornerstones of an amazing (local and remote) social structure,
you seem well enough bonded to be able to survive the mammoth
stresses caused by tides of crash-space-occupiers (and the
occasional freeloader like myself who won't go away no matter
how much Mike-Be-Gone you put around the back bathroom). As for
commitment, well, you do have your 4 (count 'em, 4) cats to
consider. No-one with a heart could possibly put such gorgeous
creatures through the pain and heartache of separation. So
I guess my priestly concerns call all be easily dispelled.
That only leaves the question of why the hell you would want
to screw with your taxes by getting married again.

Egad! I think I'm being out-queened! Well, honeybunch, *my*
satin dress will look nicer than *your* satin dress, so :-p

'Course you can smooch me, dear heart. You just have to catch

I have at times been gotten around.

Because women's hats and many men's hat are cheaply-made one-size-fits-all

Name: Robert Dawson
Age: 22
Living in Newmarket, New Hampshire
Going to school. Trying for an MS in Resource Economics. Already have a
BA in econ from the U of Washington, in Seattle.

Physical bits and pieces:

5' 7" i think
185-190 lbs (lot of sitting behind the desk last semester)
eyes usually kinda greenish/hazel sometimes gold when the clothes weather
etc are just right.
short nondescript brown hair

Previous relations: last one was a woman before that a man before that a
bunch of women
known for a while just haven't admitted it until a little while ago

Music: New Order, the Beloved, Matthew Sweet, Barry Manilow, 808 State,
Meat Beat Manifesto, Suede

Books: texts mostly environmental econ stuff. No time for much of
anything else. But if the opportunity presents itself: fantasy, and
anything by Umberto Eco (The Name of the Rose, Foucault's Pendulum, The
Limits of Interpretation).

Rather fond of those Merchant/Ivory productions like Howard's End.

What else can I think of: love earrings, want a tattoo, mountain biking,
buying Jansport backpacks (got seven of em--they're virtually free since
my sis works for them). I could kill from some chinese food right now.
Actually all fo the time.

Oh Yeah,
family: Mom knows, Dad doesn't--mostly nice people if a little on the
conservative side. Sisters: two Cindy 27 Jenny 26. Best friend: Jen 22

AND a big thanks for everyone being such huge smart-asses. I get nothing
but joy out of reading this group. A nice break from finding out that
once again my friends are too lazy to send me any mail.

I feel like I should have a big ole picture of myself on this.

Well, here is some nonsensical info about me...

Name: Olaf Seibert.
Age: 26 years, until 24 may.
Sex: Why not?
Sex: Oh yeah, male.
Length: 1,75 m.
Mass: 55 kg.
Hair on top of head: Reaches at least 3/4 down my back; dark blond, i.e.
almost brown.
Hair on bottom of head: Full beard, varies from trimmed short to just
a few cm long. Moustache: mostly kept short. All this due
to a resolution not to shave, ever.
Theoretical Orientation: Bi, since soon after soc.bi was created, which was
22 october 1991. Before that I didn't really orient at all,
except perhaps as not-the-same-as-everybody-else, and I
still do, in general.
Practice and Experience: So far I only have physical experience with motss,
even though I tend to fall in love with motos more (but
still not often).
Eyes: Blue/grey.
Skin: I like to get tanned in the sun but computers have too
short cords. That doesn't keep me inside, though.
Siblings: A sister.
Cats: Almost all our cats at home were called "Poesie" except for
the very first one, "Killie".
Degree: Doctorandus (BSc?) Computer Science.
Favourite Higher Programming Language: C.
Favourite Assembler Language: PDP-11.
Shoe Size: 42 (Dutch system).
Shoes: Each pair is heavier than the previous one.
Shoelaces: One red and one black.
Socks: One black and one red.
Favourite Computer: Amiga.
Favourite non-Amiga Operating System: BSD Unix.
Clothes: Jeans, shabby tshirts and sweaters. Usually in a few
layers because I'm cold otherwise. When without, I really
love the feeling of my hair on my back.
Swimming: Preferably on clothing-optional beaches,
not on textile beaches.
Sexual Interests: Most of the things I've already done, and many things
I haven't done yet.
PDAs: Too shy to initiate: I need some initiative.
Miscellaneous Interests: reading (mostly but not exclusively Fantasy and SF)
Gamy: Undetermined yet; No theoretical reservations against poly-.
Group Sex: None so far.
Hat Size: I really should try for some black hat...
Politics: Left of center; I would say Anarchist if I knew what it meant.
Freckles: None. Birthmarks are simply not a substitute.
Bisexual Conferences: Norwich, Nottingham.
Soc.Bi Parties: Edinburgh, Cambridge.
Silly Far-Away Birthday Parties: Edinburgh.
Other Silly Far-Away Meetings With People From The Net: Paris, The End of The
Universe (i.e. Lelystad).
Current Job: Programmer for "Polderland Language & Speech Technology".
Places Lived: Hoofddorp .nl (born), Amsterdam, Venray, Merselo,
Nijmegen (current).
Music: Varied, includes loud guitars.
Slut: Not enough.
Transport: Racing bike; I can't cycle slowly anyway. No driving license.
Dating: I don't like this word, it sounds so artificial.
Relationships: None so far.
Sport: Don't like it, especially team sports or involving
dangerously moving balls.
Energy: I've been told I'm soooo relaxed... but not always.
Nickname: Rhialto the Marvellous.
Alcohol: No bear please, just strong liquor, unadulterated.
Preferably rum or a good vodka. British pubs taught me
to appreciate cider.

It was probably the news posting software that did it. The "nn"
newsreader will truncate .sigs to 4 lines; the software you are using
apparently truncates it to 8 lines. Don't be too annoyed that the
software is truncating your .signature; rather take it as a hint that
you ought to shorten it yourself :-)

By the way, "Netiquette" guidelines are regularly posted to one of the
following two newsgroups (I forget which):

news.newusers.questions
news.announce.newusers

(They should also be cross-posted to news.answers.) If you haven't done
so already then I suggest you read these netiquette guidelines. They
are written in a humorously sarcastic manner and so can be quite fun to
read. Of course, they also contain some useful advice such as that you
should keep .signatures to 4 lines or less.

Please don't take the above as a flame. Just a gentle pointer in the
right direction. Anyway, welome to soc.bi.

age: 29
sex: male
orientation: bisexual (never had a solid, working, long-term

politics: cryptoanarchist meets anarchosyndicalism with dose

concern. Cynical with it. You don't want to know any
more.)
height: 5'9"
weight: too much, by about 10%. A sore point.
hair: black, curly, and fine; as long as it gets without falling

skin: geek-white in winter, turning golden-brown on exposure to
sunlight
siblings: two (elder bro, elder sis)
parents: two (one male and one female, oddly enough: old,
eccentric, jewish intellectuals, caught between a very
constricting social background and their own innate
oddness)
sense of humour: warped, verging on surreal
religion: atheist, with occasional forays into Discordianism
tickle status: ticklish, especially when tired or aroused
current relationship: was in the [well-advanced] process of falling

parents: divorced 23 years ago after 27 years of marriage. Still very good
friends.
clothes: have to, it's cold around here.
relationships: 4 really serious ones in all (3 motss, 1 motos) over the past
(historical) 15 years, with 3 of those being history. A number of good
friends have been on-and-off lovers over the years, plus
there's been untold numbers of semi-serious lovers, fuck
buddies, and so on. (Yeah, I was a slut back in the late 70s
and early 80s).
relationships: been married to U for 4+ years, been together for 8+ years. I
(present) don't have other relationships at the moment and I haven't
had for a while -- I somehow don't feel like it. That will
surly change, though.
degrees: MScEE (1988). I have a PhD dissertation in limbo somewhere
(don't ask).
jobs: I've worked as a UNIX sysadm, as an X11 developer, as HCI researcher,
and as UNIX consultant.
technical interests: OOPSLA, UNIX networking and security, GUIs,
programming languages.
computer system of choice: NEXTSTEP, SunOS, Linux, BSD 4.3, (in that order)
computer languages of choice: BETA, Objective-C, C++, Perl, tcl/tk, ANSI C
current job: part sysadm, part applied CS research
music: Love it. I grew up on a diet of old Stones and CCR albums, I went all
wild during the punk era, and I've touched on most of everything else
in the time since then. These days my main interests are in modern
jazz and in classical vocal music.
albums: The day the guy in my fav. music store asked if I wanted coffee
while browsing I knew I was spending too much money on albums. I've
been holding back a bit and is currently hoovering around the 2000
album mark. There's Zappa (I'm one of the maniacs with a complete
album collection), Wagner (I have three complete recordings of The
Ring), new Danish jazz, bebop era (Baker, Miles, Diz, Parker, etc),
trad. rock (Stones, Los Lobos, The Band, Ry Cooder, Little Feat),
Dylan, classic lieder (Schubert, Schumann, good ol' Ludwig van),
Keith Jarret, opera, choral music, and lots of other stuff.
performance: I used to play the bass guitar and percussion, but
I didn't have the time to do it well, so I gave up on it.
concerts: jazz often, especially big bands. Choral and orchestral classical
once or twice a month.
dancing: not as much as I'd like to.
TV: none. I used to have one but I never used it so I gave it away.
movies: Once a week at minimum. (somewhat) Recent good ones: Aladdin (3
times), The Piano, Bitter Moon, Manhattan Murder Mystery, Det
forsømte forår (Danish), The Fugitive.
books: Can read, will travel. As a kid I was a real bookworm, doing at least
one book a day. I still read a lot, both novels and science. I'll
read a programming book for pleasure often, and I do a fair amount of
novels, too. Gibson, Tolkien, Johannes V. Jensen, Blixen, Camus, le
Guin, Peter Høegh, Graham Greene, le Carre, Garcia Marques, Lessing.
plays: rarely.
opera: Whenever possible. Wagner festivals make my knees weak (and no,
*don't* get the urge to conquer Poland)
ballet: at times -- U loves it, so does mom.
art: I like to go to the museums, especially for paintings, but I can't
say I know much about it. I *love* Monet.
photography: 12 years ago I played a lot with it, then I put it to
rest, but I've recently started getting real interested again.
pets: nope. Grew up in a downtown apartment complex, lived that kind of
place all my life -- not an environment where you'd have pets.
sports: used to play handball a lot but I injured my knee. I like to
watch soccer.
religion: nope.
irc: Uses "fischer" as nick (no imagination). Usually found on #gblf.
transpotation: bicycle. Subway or bus when I have to. No driving license.
interests: music, science, literature, computing & computers, history,
politics, bicycling.
games: played a lot of chess way back when, played a good deal of MUD
not so long ago, but currently games aren't bery high on my list.
sexual interests: Yes. I like to be dominated in a mild way, I like trying
new things, and I try to use my imagination as much as
possible. It's a rare thing I don't like, and I like to
give as much as to receive.
public sex: not much
group sex: it's been a while, but I used to find it lots of fun.
PDAs: with people I'm very close to, otherwise not. The cold nordic
mentality and all that.
hat size: Big. Very. Whenever I find a real nice hat it's too small. *sigh*
bed pref.: I don't like waterbeds.
jewelry: none. I've been thinking real hard about piercings, but it's not
really something people do over here so I'm kinda worried about
finding someone who knows what they're doing.
places lived: Århus, Aalborg, København (Copenhagen), all in Denmark.
travels: lots in Europe, only been outside Europe a few times. Been
hitchiking in Europe a great deal.
plants: U. has a very green hand. Love 'em.
politics: socialism / anarchism
notes: High mental activety. Mind mind is just about always working on
something. Somewhat paranoid -- it's a very rare thing I trust
someone, but those I trust I will trust with my life. Difficult to
get close to (there's that cold nordic attutude again).

I've set one up at

dina.kvl.dk (129.142.149.160)
/pub/bi-folk/descriptions

and I've placed the descriptions I managed to save there.

There's a /incoming directory where anyone can upload files. Note,
though, that uploaded files cannot be downloaded from there (I don't
want to be a crackers info exchange). If you upload stuff, send me
mail and I will move things to appropriate locations.

Individual descriptions for the archive can be mailed to me, too. I
will try to keep up with what is posted here, but I might be away or
have News server problems or whatever.

I've wondered a bit about format of the archive:

1) file names: I've saved some stuff under email name, some under
the name people tend to use here. Should we have a standard?
Email names makes it simple to look someone up.

2) files: right now, I've saved everything people have written,
including News headers and such. Should this be edited out? I
guess we should keep at least the date.

Oh, and I've noted that few people include email address in their
descriptions. Maybe it would be nice to have those?

/Lars

PS: I've created a /pub/bi-folk/pictures too, but I do not have any
pics yet, and I actually don't know if I have the disk space for
it. You might like to go ahead and upload not-too-big pics (JPEG
preferred to GIF, I guess) and I'll see how bad it gets.

PPS: this stuff should really have a WWW of Gopher server. I might
actually set one up, but I don't have the time right now.

Yes! It's just the same for me. I went through a three year period
where I didn't write anything; but the music didn't stop whizzing
about my head, I just couldn't bring myself to put it down.

That's great! Me too. I called up my best friend Bishara who lives
in Nazareth last week. We collaborated on some wonderful stuff, but
never managed to take it anywhere. I invited him to come live here,
and he said he might!

I know what you mean. When I was studying at the music academy they
got it into my head that there are some thing which are 'interesting'
and some things which aren't, and I spent too much time trying to
write interesting stuff instead of listening to the song in my head.
That's when I ran dry.

relationships: 3 live-together relationships in the past, 2 MOTOS, 1 MOTSS.
gamy: undecided. Flunked out of mono, so trying poly.
unemployment: I'm trying to get a job, ok?
music: early and classical. You can drag me to hear your music, and I'll
like it ok, but you'll never convert me.
concerts: Best one I've been to is Alfred Brendel playing the later Shubert

operas: Marriage of Figaro. Lyric. 1987.
dancing: only at UCBU parties. I have dance-o-phobia probably due to being
forced to take tap dance at age 4.
books: Omnivorous reader. "mainstream fiction", occasional genre fiction
(SF, mysteries, and most recently Larry McMurtry), lesbigay fiction,
"great books", mediocre books, lousy books.
sports: Horrible at sports, but I run and do weights.
transportation: feet. too spacey to ride bike in traffic.
hats: yes. Us white folks need 'em in the sun. They get rather battered
and eccentric-looking with use.
shoes: these days Eddie Bauer "duck shoes" with Thinsulite insulation.
politics: straight ticket Independent Voters of Illinois.
drugs: beer, coffee, tea. But pretty conservative about all of them.
pets: one cat, one dog.

age: 35 years
sex: male
weight: 82-85 EuroUnits
height: 182 EuroUnits
hair: dead rat (used to be sort of golden when I was younger),
short, straight - until I want to grow it longer when it
starts to turn in all the wrong directions and I have to

facial hair: seldom (only when I'm too broke to buy shaving foam, or
when I'm too lazy to shave it) - but if I let it grow
for a bit, it's sort of golden
eyes: grey (a particularly BORING grey, too)
complexion: dead fish
general: glasses (round), I think my chin is too weak - and my
nose too big - and eyes too small. Come to think of it,
I probably look like the young Goebbels...
clothes: jeans (with baggy knees), t-shirt, sweater, leather
jacket (very thick, very heavy, very warm - except that
the zipper is broken)
head gear: only when it's below -10C

cleaner
marzipan status: never understood what people see in that stuff
current relationships: none. Recovering from a couple of classic
unrequited love affairs. (Why me!?)
secrets: hate my work (don't tell the boss - nah, he knows), wish

ask), got the hots for [deleted to protect the
innocent], I always cry when I watch the end scene in
Capra's "It's A Wonderful World"
plans: none beyond finishing this
dreams: oh, the usual stuff: to find true love, to publish some
poetry, to write a play, to find something meaningful to
occupy my life with - shit, to _get_ a life, to have a
real home, to get away from everything... (this gets
depressing, better stop here)

Well, by all means take it easy, but do check whether deferring
bi issues is really worthwhile. I can imagine situations where
one bridge at a time is the right approach, but it's not always
that tough to just come out as bi in the first place.

Ahah! A colo(u)r junkie! Hale and well met, good sir! Here I sit,
looking around my workstation, and we have: Rothko's "Red, White
and Brown, 1957", O'Keeffe's "Red White and Blue", Mondrian's
"Diamond Painting in Red, Yellow and Blue" and "Composition
with Red, Blue Yellow" and Kandinsky's "Jaune, Rouge, Bleu". Notice
a theme, perhaps? :-) All I need now is a Pollock with a
trichromic title, but as far as I'm aware there ain't one. Can
anyone correct me on that?

I can hardly integrate Goldsworthy into that, much as I would love
to. Perhaps I should do a separate photography wall to the cube;
I already have a Mapplethorpe of Patti Smith that I'm rather fond
of. I'd invite you around for some interior decoration hints,
but you're 8000 miles away ...

You breath a heavy sigh and think, "Finally, we made our way around the
table and everyone has introduced themselves, I thought this would never
end!" You are about to start your presentation, when a Purple Tiger,
slightly out of breath, stumbles into the room and passes out a sheet of
paper to everyone. When he hands you your copy, you look down at to see
a hand scrawled, in crayon no less, bio sheet that reads:

name: Grant Blaha

relationships: 4 straight, one currently long distant female, desperately
seeking a man.
ticklishness: not even. tickling gives me intense, orgasmic pleasure.

Blinking your eyes a couple times, you noticed a headache coming on from
reading the badly scrawled writing. A little miffed, you hand it back
to the tiger saying, "Save a tree bud, put it on email."

Ciao,

PT

Heh. Just wait until I get home and find my 66 ephemeris :)

>job: programmer, Autodesk Multimedia Technology

Autodesk? Are they still doing VR development? [considers emigration,
will stroke tigers for jobs]

>eyes: blue (rgb: 0.1 0.6 0.9)

I don't believe it! That's the most astounding blue - I just set a
desktop to it - are those values treely ruly accurate?

Can't reach...

eep.

>religion: FRACTALS

You worship fractals? you think that the Indwellingness has a nonintegral
Hausdorff dimension? Goodness...

"Tighter.... tighter, dammit..."
"Uh, ok... Lessee, I've got Bind Mortal at 63%, will that do?"
"Heh. Roll percentiles."
"Zero-zero; I guess that's a critical?"
"Yup. That'll do handcuffs and nipple-clamps as well as rope."

Egads.

Huh?!?!

I'd have sworn nearer to 20. Just goes to show.

Now _this_ is just under-selling yourself. Why not use the more
flattering term, 'wiry'?

Ah. I suppose this explains everything ...

Oh, I still lurk around. As ever, amount of posting is inversely
proportional to how much work I have to do :-)

*hugs* back!

There's some, ah, *interesting* ones of you, with legs at impossible
angles (or was that the irrepressible Don, I forget). I'll have to
go home and check :-)

Dunno that it'd work very well with the bike :-\
