Carlos,

My copy of your Cellfoam 88 plane flew today!

Attached are a couple of pics.

I am still trying to fine tune the angle of attack and the CG.  How do you have your's set up?

thanks,

sam

That's great!

Given the small size of the model, I've run into problems seeing it when flown from far away. For that reason, I recommend a fairly forward CG location. I won't get to visit back home for a couple more weeks. I cannot look at my design notes until then. I recommend moving the CG forward until you get good hands-off stability.

By angle of attack, do you mean the wing incidence angle? For ease of mounting, I set mine at zero. The KFm airfoils with a step on the bottom are good lift producers even at this low angle of attack.

Carlos,

Thanks for the reply.

When you attach your wing to the fuse at zero deg incidence, are the front 1/3 of the wing and the rear 1/3 of the wing actually touching the fuse?  If that is so, the rear 1/3 of the wing being at the top layer of 3 layers of the front 1/3 of the wing gets pulled down by 2 layers of Cellfoam 88.  That may create enough of an incidence to be counted greater than zero.

I will attach a diagram to clarify.

Top pic is what I am thinking how you attached your wing to the fuse.

Bottom pic is how I have it attached to the fuse with extra pieces of Cellfoam 88 below the middle and rear 1/3's of the wing where it attaches to the fuse.

Thanks for the diagram. What I do is what is in the bottom picture. I add extra pieces of foam over the fuselage to let the wing sit level.

I'm attaching a diagram of my new airfoil design. The name has not been finalized. Please do not redistribute. It's a bit different from yours, though you clearly have a good memory!

Carlos,

I like this one.  I think it is much improved over the one I saw in your prototype.

I am still waiting for your new book.

thanks,

sam

This is the same airfoil as on the prototype. Some of the design elements are subtle.

I've been working as a model airplane design consultant on a big government project for the last two months. I expect to be mostly done at the end of the year. As soon as my schedule frees up I plan to return to the development of my new designs and books.
