The Midlands mid year date delivered its normal glorious weather with an absorbing contest at this tricky venue. The admin team did an excellent job on transmitter control and score keeping.

 

The first two day's scoring was flawless but an innocent error in recording the final day open/F3J/electric winch scores in to the electric winch results sheet instead of the normal input sheet, resulted in that event's scores being corrupted. After some panicky and futile attempts to fix the corrupted file, a quick fix was done to simply copy the current input in to the Natals 2006 spreadsheets. Unfortunately, entries had improved with the current 39 pilot entry being truncated to last year's 34 pilot entry - Simon T and the W's below not being picked up and uncle Wolfie had two slots wins under his belt...... Your's truly had a suspicion of the problem but the mob were growing restless and prize giving progressed with only the top three trophy places in each class announced.

 

Unfortunately (especially for this scribe.... ;-) there are some changes recorded below, although not to the F3J results and the open winner. The open winner being a junior, Conrad Klintworth, with F3J taken by Chris Adrian. The four other Nats events having no such score glitches.

 

Humble apologies to all, especially the stalwart little admin team of Dave and Jean Denley, Des Cooper and Rose Wittstock. Special grovelings to Fred Wittstock for not drawing attention to the beautiful Rosewood trophies all hand made by him and sponsored to the event. Appreciation also to Mike Summers and Adrian Baker on stepping in at the 11th hour to take over the CD duties from an extremely ill Werner Ehlers - we wish Werner a speedy recovery.

 

Mention was made of the pre-event decision by right hand man Dennis Bird and myself that this would be the last Midlands event with our organisational involvement - a simple case of retirement, waning organisational numbers and lack of new blood willing to join in administratively. The "Soar-J" type theme may be taken on by the balance of the club or indeed another group altogether - the ETB name being mentioned in dispatches.

 

It was especially magic to have Theo Wolthers and Derek Marusich back in the frame, along with the half dozen first timers and Rudi King - son of John King. Thanks to all, especially the Highveld hard core who have supported these Midland polo field events since 1995.
