unlike many, I think its .... inadvisable to use a admin account 24/7.
I often use a standard (not power user) for normal computer
operations. It runs fine on admin but startup or running the exe in
standard leaves me with no style.. I moved the style folder inside my
appdata folder %appdata%\Roaming\full phat\snarl but still nothing.

Did I move it to the wrong spot? I see no documentation reguarding
this. I need some sort of control over the styles. I was even hoping
to find one that'll show some details from the app (like pidgin - msg
preview / user)

Can you please help?
I won't run an admin account
but I need some other loophole or way todo this

I would try to remove the Roaming from the path. On my machine the
styles are in %appdata\full phat\...

%appdata% is C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming on Vista+, so it
should incl. the roaming. I assume freeballer just wrote it wrong?

Snarl runs no elevated, ie. with admin rights, fine for me. Default
installation run with admin rights on the same account though.

I just checked it with a newly created user on my Windows 7 (where Snarl is - of course - already installed). New styles are not loaded even if they are stored in the right folder (which is the one within roaming as Toke said already.)

Root cause seems to be that the styles engine is not loaded which is most probably caused by it's dlls not being registered for that user. Will have a deeper look soon but have to leave for now (you can see the loaded style engines using the Advanced button in the styles section).

Did you make sure to set the permissions on the folders and files you
moved so that the non-admin user would have (at least read) access to
them?

Ok, got it :) If you look in the local settings folder of the user who
installed Snarl you find some files called *.styleengine in the styles
folder. These are simply empty files. So copy them to your non admin
user folder or create them there new (just empty textfiles is enough)

When you restart Snarl all style options are available :)

Tested on my Windows 7

well. the appdata shows by defaults to roaming - yes. But if you
script or modify the config path to only %appdata%
it will NOT typically add "roaming" with it. At least in my
experience. So when i write things now I say %appdata%\roaming

I see nothing at all in the syles folder called *.styleengine I even
searched the hd and none showed up with that extension.
Maybee I ducked up the install or something happened. I've had more
and more issues with this install anyways, so I'll probably
re-install and remove as much references to it as possible. I also had
melon installed from a previous attempt at snarl so maybee
I'll update that as well.

I mean no extensions work, no themes/styles, and one program does not
follow any config (for duration of notification for one)

I'll report back when I can.
thanks for the responses

I fixed the major problems by reinstall, I had to remove all data
folders as well.
The timeout works perfectly, which was my major issue. BUT no
extensions, styles work
from either the c:\program files...... folder OR the %appdata% folder
(yes, I used full paths on pc)

Just for clarification:
my system is Vista, 32-bit
user account (not power user, or administrator): freeballer
no mod to UAC or anything major in services.

all permissions are changed for "users" group to have full access
and I deliberately made a new (normal) user account with same results

Anybody have some troubleshooting steps I can do to further fix this?
