OT: Anyone Having Computer Trouble?

With the recent weeks' spam crap, with links, I was wondering if anyone
has noticed any anomalies on their computers.

I don't open any links from people I don't know, but did click to open
some suspicious mail that came through the list...again, I did not open
links. Kevin's wife doesn't open unknown links, either.

Norton security seems to have been compromised, and Windows 7 is
preventing links from opening. Internet Explorer and Google Chrome are
completely inoperative.

That's my problem, but has anyone else had any recent issues?

I have been experimenting with Google Chrome, and like it so far.  However, when I go to my password storage device on Chrome I get a security warning, and I don't get the same warning on Firefox.

Three suggestions for anyone who may be interested:

 

1.       Chrome as the browser

2.       Roboform (password security management)

3.       Peer block (if you don’t like to be tracked)

 

Separately my boys went to Paul’s last weekend and loved it!.  I told them to take me next time. Had I known, I would have gone. They said the BBQ is fantastic.

 

Keep it up Paul!

Yes, I have been having problems for the first time. A bar keeps popping up with the name of "Express Settings" I had a Vipre rep run a program to check for a virus and said it was not a virus, but ran a program to get rid of it. Then my addresses were gone on my mail program and after closing and reopening it they were back. Then this morning I knew something was wrong because I had no mail and after I ran a test sending a message to myself I found out all of my mail was being directed to the junk mail folder......including your message Kevin. I have recontacted Vipre, that is a virus protection service.

There is one thing I have added since all of this started and that is a Key scrambler program.

I'm not having any problems at all. I see a lot of those phishing emails. I don't click the links. I still don't run any anti-virus or other anti-malware software on any of the 7 computers in the house, and neither do most of my clients. I'm not bragging, just stating a fact. I won't say why because it really seems to bother Garry. ;-)

The Java exploits that were rampant at the beginning of 2013 were completely OS-agnostic... if you were running the exploited version of Java, you could have been infected.  Even Linux users, as I am, could be affected.  You don't have to click on links or visit dodgy sites to get malware, this was evidenced by NBC.com being compromised, allowing attackers to use that very popular website to distribute their malware.

That's true Drew... but I don't run Java. It's not even installed by default on Macs and if it is, Safari is designed to detect and de-activate any old version. It's rarely necessary for most users these days anyway.
