An employee of a friend has got a smoker for sale and would like an idea of value.

It is custom built on a single axle trailer.
The cooking chamber is 49 inches long and 23 inches in diameter with a single 21"x46" grate.  There is a separate fire grate 6" below that if someone wants to grill.

The wood box is 22" high and 21" in diameter.  It is connected to the cooking chamber by a 9" long 7" pipe.

The cooking chamber and firebox are made from 1/2 inch steel pipe.

There is a damper between the fire box and the cooking chamber and the chimney at the far end from the fire box has an adjustable cover.  Several half inch holes are drilled in the firebox door for air.

There are two access doors into the cooking chamber.  One is 19" wide and the other is 24" wide.  There is also an access door at the far end from the fire box for cleaning.  That door has a thermometer mounted midway and about cooking grate height.

The floor of the trailer is diamond plate steel.  There are two 48"x25" expanded metal storage spaces on each side and a single open topped area around the firebox for wood.

Good rubber on the tires.

I understand that it's only worth what someone will pay for it.  So the question becomes, was he willing to pay to much when he bought it?
He'd like to get $2800.  What do you think?

Just my thoughts and .02¢ worth.  2800 might be a little on the upper end.  He might get it/might not.  Winter and Christmas are upon us.......I would start the biddin' at $2000, run it up the flag pole and see if anyone salutes it.  If he wont go that go to 23 and if the answer is still ''NO'' tell him that you will come around next spring and look again.....

a brand new Lang 48" trailer cooker is about 2400bucks--I would start closer to 1000bucks for this homemade unit---unless it cooks exceptionally well!

Oh oh!.  Looks like he over paid when he bought it.  He got it from some company in the Bakken that needed to unload it.  He will not be a happy camper.
Hopefully, he had better luck elk hunting today.
Thx

I'll have to be on the low side. I'm sorry if he paid too much, butt if he can sit on it long enuf he may find a buyer. Mostly he's probably better to see if he can trade it out for something he thinks he can sell, or take the first $1000 he can get.

I agree. 400-500 for the trailer, and about the same for the cooker. i think 1000. would be on the top end. Sorry, I see these all the time, and they don't draw much. Sorry

Well, the seller is now reconciled to loose money on this deal.  He's motivated to sell since it'll pay for his kids Christmas.  There's a heart surgeon who's interested now that the price has plunged.

and the surgeon can also afford to have a good weld shop tweak the cooker to make it perform better(if necessary)

I wouldn't worry about the surgeon, unless he is really into bbq.  Many people want the toy, butt the time for making bbq is not appealing after the first couple attempts.  stay aware if he buys it, he'll probably be selling it in a few months.  Just my .02

Actually, the surgeon has an 18" WSM that he used for six months before buying a Backwoods "Party" that he's been cooking on for a couple of years.  I couldn't get him to give up the Backwoods so I doubt I'll have any success with the trailer.  He does sorta like my 22" though since I have more success with it than he does the Backwoods.
