Are monthly meetings still being held? I'm new to the area and just
checking in.

They've pretty much been put on hold for the summer. Hopefully just
for the summer.

It's been hard to stir up interest; and the last few times I've been
quite busy with work. If there is enough interest I'd be happy
meeting again. I'm pretty sure we can still meet at Globe unless
someone else has a suggestion.

So in short -- the last real meeting was April by my estimate. I'd
love to get them going again though.

I would love to get them going again.
I think steve and I could do some fun talking about our Asterisk servers
we recently linked together.
VoIP is so much fun!

Mike do you have any suggestions for what you would like to see in a
meeting?
like anything specific you want to learn about or discuss?

I'm pretty much down for anything.  I'm a huge fan of seeing "appliance" type distros (Trixbox, m0n0wall, Vyatta).  I just recently got into the Suse Studios (www.susestudios.com) and started putting together quick and dirty ISO's for different jobs / builds.  Really interesting take on the "roll you own" concept. Not sure how formal you guys are about meetings but I'm pretty much always good for a beer somewhere in town to talk shop and meet other geeks.

Hey now that sounds more fun. Somewhere with wings that doesn't require
an ID to get in is my vote.

Well sometimes a few of us will go get a beer after the meeting..
I like that you mention Trixbox... I have been using FreePBX on my
Asterisk server which is the web UI for TrixBox.
And I know one of the other guys, Steve, recently got it working on his
machine... we set up an IAX trunk between the two.
I thought that might be a neat thing to discuss/demo at a meeting.

I'm all about having another meeting and talking about asterisk and appliances.

It has been really difficult lately with everybody (including myself) being as busy as we are to have a meeting once a month.

Where is JohnMS? Are they still getting together once a month at pizza ranch? It would be nice to get together and see some new faces.

Is anyone running an "appliance" distro off of a compact flash or any media that doesn't have moving parts?  I just ordered an IDE to Compact Flash conversion board and a 16GB CF card.  Thinking of using this for Untangle or a router/firewall.  Just curious if there are any success or total failure stories out there.

opello gave me an ide to cf adapter awhile ago. right now its powering my pfsense router. I can't say there is any noticable performance improvements but im sure reliability is much higher.

I use CF for my m0n0wall, and have in the past used it for other
things. It's not really noticeably faster, but it's nice that read is
free pretty much forever instead of wearing out. So if you aren't
writing anything it's pretty rock solid.

CF is nice because you can put it into IDE mode, and it *just works*
so those IDE<->CF boards should be really cheap. The company I work
for makes them for several products, and we had some rejects which is
where I got the few that I have.
