This is good news and this is part of the many issues we would be discussing at the SLPW Conference this weekend on May 19th at 10:00 am in MD at the Comfort Inn Hotel 4050 Power Mill Road, Beltsville. So join us if you are serious minded about the future of SL. Your presence would speak volume. As we count our fortunes we should think of the challenges that comes with them.
How do we plan for the next generation, how do we make sure that the fortune trickles down to very least amongst us or the less fortunate in our villages and ghettos. We need to make sure that the 36% growth projected also results to a minimum 36% reduction of the poverty rate in SL. We need to see at least a minimum of 36% of those now below the poverty level lifted from there current state of misery. If year by year we see corresponding reduction in the poverty rate then these statistics would make sense to us.
We do not want to wait until 10 years from now to realize that the so called 36% increase in wealth/growth only benefited the vulture capitalists, politicians are their cronies that comes into SL as has been the case in the past 51 years. Most of our wealth were siphoned out of the country to build skyscrapers in other cities while SL and Sierra Leoneans continue to remain poor. We want to see the income inequality gap narrows proportionately then the IMF projection would mean much to the average Sierra Leonean.
