Aloha Everyone,
The community response to our first Eat Hawaii Island Grown events has
been awesome! More than 100 people attended the film festival at
Parker School on Friday night, and there were 45 people at the 'Imiloa
dinner in Hilo on Saturday.
Now we need your support for the Kona Brewing Company's Eat Local,
Drink Local event nixt Saturday night. Here are some reasons for you
to attend:
1. Great beer, brewed locally as much as possible, incorporating local
ingredients. Local food selected to pair with each brew. See below fo
the menu.
2. KBC has been one of our strongest supporters. For almost evey Slow
Food event they have donated kegs of delicious beer for us to try.
They are always there for us. They are one of two sponsors for our
EHIG campaign. Thuis is a chance to show them our support as well.
3. The cost - only $35 for both food and beer, including a tour of the
brewery. And they are giving back to Slow FOod $15 per person in
support of Eat Hawaii Island Grown. The only cost will be for the
food.
4. A wonderful evening for Slow Food members and the public. Our
previous event at KBC was relaxed and fun and we learned so much about
brewing beer and pairing it with food.
So, if you are free, please join us at the newly rennovated facility
in Kona.
The brewery tour starts at 5 pm followed by dinner.
To make a reservation, go to http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/22079.

Many thanks,
Nan

MENU

OCEANIC ORGANIC
Hawaii's FIRST beer brewed with all organic malt and hops! Oceanic
Organic was brewed using all organic malted barley and hops, fermented
with a custom blend of Belgian yeast strains and spiced using an
abundance of hops, a touch of coriander and some grains of paradise
(think white pepper meets cardamom). Oh yes, and we couldn't resist
dry-hopping too. Oceanic Organic has a distinctive spicy nose with
notes of lemon peel, clove, white pepper, cardamom and fresh hops
complemented by pleasant cellar-like notes. These complex aromas are
balanced by rustic hop flavor and palate pleasing acidity. Oceanic
Organic is a crisp, dry and complex brew to enjoy before, during or
after a meal. 6

BIG ISLAND GINGER BEER
Brewed from the residual sweet extract from the plethora of malted
barley used to brew Old Blowhole Barleywine, Big Island Ginger beer is
spiced with local ginger root to lend a pleasant baked gingersnap
flavor and spicy ginger aroma. An excellent accompaniment to salads!

SALAD
Greek Salad - organic local greens tossed with a Ginger-Citrus
vinaigrette, Topped with local tomatoes, Maui onions, cucumbers,
kalamata olives and feta.
Strawberry Spinach Salad - Organic, locally grown baby spinach topped
with
roasted wheat and our homemade strawberry vinaigrette.

LAVAMAN RED ALE
A malty red ale with strong caramel notes and subtle chocolate malt
flavor balanced by the grassy-citrus aroma of Cascade hops. An
excellent match for smoked, braised meats and cheeses such as those
found in KBCillas.

CASTAWAY I.P.A.
An assertively hopped India Pale Ale and brewpub favorite! Liberal
amounts of hops yield a strong piney-citrus-grassy aroma and
pronounced bitterness. All this hop flavor and aroma is balanced by
the pleasant toffee sweetness of caramel and Munich malts. The hop
aroma helps accentuate herbal and spicy foods and the malts provide a
toasty complement to baked breads and pizzas. Enjoy with a variety of
KBC pizzas!

PIZZAS
Kona Wild Mushroom - A mixture of three types of mushrooms, peppers,
onions,
garlic and chevre make this pie a favorite!
Kamuela - A zesty concoction with freshly diced garlic, roasted red
peppers, roasted
onions, and house-made parmesan sausage. Ono!
Ka'u Pesto - Our homemade Mac Nut Pesto base is an herbal explosion in
your mouth!

PIPELINE PORTER
Smooth, dark and roasty with a distinctive fresh coffee aroma, dark
chocolate flavor and earthy complexity from a diverse blend of premium
malted barely, hops and 100% Kona coffee grown and roasted at Cornwell
Estate in Holualoa. Sip, savor and enjoy Pipeline with KBC desserts
featuring the complementary flavors of chocolate and contrasting
silkiness of Tahitian vanilla ice cream.

DESSERT
Big Island Tahitian Vanilla Ice Cream, served atop a macadamia nut
fudge brownie topped with Macadamia nuts, Black Sand Porter chocolate
sauce, and a cherry.
