Compost the Most! Workshop and Demo
Come join us at the *UF** Organic Gardens on* *Saturday June 18, 2011 from
9AM-10:30AM* to learn about composting and view a successful community
garden compost system in action. Jennifer Seitz with Alachua County Waste
Alternatives will give a brief presentation on composting, followed by an
up-close and hands-on look at the compost system led by garden member, Ann
Burnett. This is intended to be a sharing and learning session and we
encourage lots of questions and exchange of ideas among experts and novices
alike. For a real opportunity to dig in, a few folks may wish to help the
gardeners turn and manage the piles. We will then travel to the *UF**
Ethnoecology
Garden* for another look at their successful compost system. Refreshments
will be provided, but please remember your own water bottle. Bring a chair
if you like and your own notebook to scribble notes. Admission is one *
healthy* non-perishable item to be collected for a family in need. *Please
RSVP* to growgainesvi...@gmail.com <melissad...@gmail.com>. If you have
seeds or plants to share please bring them.
It’s Not Too Hot to Garden Workshop!
Summer gardening in Florida is for most of us, the time when we retreat from
the heat, bugs and diseases than can plague us and our gardens. But there is
plenty to think about over the next few months! Join us for a workshop at
the *Downtown Farmers **Garden* on *Wednesday* *June, 2011 from 7-8:30PM*.
Wendy Wilber of Alachua County IFAS Extension will lead a conversation about
summer crops, cover cropping, seed saving, solarization and much more for
your backyard summer garden. Come share your ideas, ask questions, and bring
samples from the garden you may have questions about. We will showcase some
of the various topics and techniques at the onsite gardens. Refreshments
will be provided, but please remember your own water bottle. Bring a chair
if you wish and your own notebook to scribble notes. *Please RSVP* to
growgainesvi...@gmail.com <melissad...@gmail.com>. The admission is one
healthy non-perishable item to be collected for a family in need. If you
have seeds or plants to share please bring them.
