I've put up a new version of the kanji recognition system at

http://kanji2.sljfaq.org/

This now features an optional "lookahead" recognition, so that it can
match something which has more strokes than the original.

The sensitivity to stroke order and direction is as before, but this
now recognizes characters quicker than Microsoft's IME pad. Please
compare the following videos:

compared to MS IME pad:

Anyway it is not really beating IME pad, but this seems to be working
better than I had expected. The old version of the kanji lookup had
lookahead but it didn't work, so this isn't a new addition to the
actual program, just switching on of an existing feature.

Please let me know what you think.

BTW the URL above is strictly for testing purposes, and I make no
guarantee that it will be there permanently.

Regarding the testing version of the handwritten input,

http://kanji2.sljfaq.org/

I've added back the options, and also a notice of testing, as well as
two new buttons which turn on debugging and display of the score of
each kanji. See the attached image. The internal engine is as it was
yesterday.
