How come passwords expected through HTTP instead of HTTPS?

Hi,

I searched for it everywhere, but found nothing so far. As far as I
know, all the data in an HTTP request is visible for everybody. I want
to use the API for uploading, so I need to give my credentials. Is not
HTTP is an insecure way to do this? If it is, how should I do this?
(I'm not a network expert at all.)

Ok, yesterday I found that you have to send anouther user account
related to the API key. (So no worry about your own credentials.)
