Interesting is maybe a bit much, it is a classic mashup - putting two
unrelated things together and hoping that the outcome is of any
relevance. Seeing that not many people bother to write good
descriptions, tags or headlines in YouTube there is not much chance that
a machine can match cleverly.

Agree. Its not a good system for finding. What I do like about it is
the ability to see both the video and slideshow at the same time (the
side by side look and feel is somewhat interesting). Assuming I could
find interesting slideshows and videos that went together, I could
view and navigate them side by side in a free manner.

Of course if you want a real mashup of videos and slideshows, then
omnisio is the real thing: http://www.omnisio.com/v/-dWAn9NdjhG/inbox-zero

But there is something about the simplicity of surfdocs which is
interesting.

Agreed. Infact I am personally interested in seeing this feature in
slideshare itself. What is stopping you guys from adding youtube
support? Shouldn't be that hard in flash :)

Any hints on whether this is in pipeline or want to strictly stay away
from this?

I have few more suggestions as well. Perhaps I will write a post on
this in my blog (http://desistartups.in)

Not sure what you mean by "youtube support" (we already support youtube
embeds in the comments). You should feel completely free to build
interesting mashups using the youtube and slideshare APIs.
Synchronizing of video and slides would be particularly useful to people
IMHO.

I won't promise that we'll never do a feature like that, but we
certainly don't want to stand in the way of people using our API to
build cool stuff.
