Agree with several other posters, PLEASE GIVE US A LINUX VERSION OF SKETCH UP SOON. Have tried to use the WINE application to run SketchUp but it doesn't work very well. Can it be that hard to construct a working version? Don't think so. But the question is, is Google really willing to do it or do they have some reason for not being helpful to other users than the Window/Mac- world?
Has anybody tried to patch Wine so Sketchup shoud run as described here http://aksels.de/software.php#sketch ? I am too inexperienced with Linux to follow the instructions but am verry interested to see/ hear if this really works :)

I really have to agree with the cry for Linux Google goodies, too. I use Linux and only Linux. I support Google for the amazing mark they made using Linux to provide a phenomenal service. I have nothing against development for Macintosh and Windows, but not all of us use those systems. PLEASE, Google Geeks, PLEASE acknowledge the wealth of technology the Linux community provided you to get where you are and let us in on the fun!
Otherwise, great job on everything and I'm always along for the ride...

Wine doesn't work for SU. I know, have tried. You can show your old sketches but not do anything to them. So, once again. WE NEEEEEED A LINUX VERSION! We really do. So PLEASE. /Loe

I'm guessing, but only guessing, that the port of Sketchup from Mac to
Windows was a *big* jobbie.
And the port from one of those to Linux (assuming the MacOS is the
closest family tree) is a bigger one!
There simply aren't easy and non-proprietary graphical platforms that
make graphics application development 'portable'. Even though the
X.org initiatives are now technically advanced to the point where
people are building interfaces that blow win/mac out of the water,
swapping from mac/win to linux is hard, real hard.
If I were a PM at Google I'm sure I'd have pressure to try and port
everything to a web service first.
But in this case I think they'd gain more kudos in moving the
application first and then trying to bundle it into a web app (like
GEarth).
