I totally agree that it is frustrating at the least, but I think it is
possible to get the result you want with some persistence. Take a

It took me a few tries to get that. In the first try, I had the
onclick at the parent with the animate value inside of it. Editing
that onclick value field caused a unique copy to be created, which
only affected that unique copy. In the second try, I animated an
intermediate value from 0 to 100 and then multiplied that divided by
100 directly in the RotZ attribute value by either 90 or 115... but
since the rotation attribute values are stored in the instance rather
than the definition... only that instance was changed and not its
In the linked file, I moved the onclick to the child door component.
When manually making copies of the door, it will initially be the same
copy, but when editing the child attributes, it creates a unique copy,
but it still all works out in the end. Frustrating for sure.
