Hi Math Club folks: Just wanted to update y'all on our
colloquium schedule, and also, to let you know that Prof.
Sanso will be having lunch and coffee with faculty and
students before his colloquium, to discuss the UC Santa
Cruz doctoral program in applied math and statistics. If you
are interested in going to either lunch (noon-1:30) or coffee
(1:30-2:30), please email me and let me know.

Hi all: Our fall colloquium series resumes on Wed Oct 14,
with Bruno Sanso (UC Santa Cruz) answering the question:
"Are the oceans warming? Statistical models for ocean
temperatures". The talk will discuss recent improvements in
statistical models of worldwide ocean temperature and
salinity. The only background required is a first course in
statistics.
