Hello SJAA Members and Friends, quick reminder, two things this Friday, 17 May...
Starting at 9:15PM, the SJAA will host another of its regular, ever-popular in town star parties. NWS says it will be mostly clear, so bring your scope, or just bring your eyes and your camaraderie, and be prepared to have a great time. It really is a great group of folks who come out, and as
always, the more, the merrier, especially with more kids and families, and with Saturn coming back around again, there are plenty of oohs and ahhs to go around! Official star party shutdown is midnight, btw, which is ok, all the kids are usually long gone by then.
Ahead of the star party, starting at 7PM, the SJAA board of directors will meet. The board meetings are open to the public and you are encouraged to come and observe, no, participate in the goings on of the organization. Things that will be on the agenda include putting down some cash for a new, bigger, better screen for our beginners classes, lecturers, and movie nights
(movies?), and we may hear about efforts to get a regular place under some really dark skies, down south.
All this is happening at Houge Park, star party on the sidewalk next to the tennis courts, and the board meeting in the first building from the parking lot.
On another note, last month I mentioned Chris Hadfield, Canadian astronaut up
in the ISS. I got a few folks who wrote me back about that mention, which was great to hear. An update on Cmdr Hadfield, earlier this week, he and two buddies took a Soyuz cab back down to Dzhezkazgan, Kazakhstan, a three and a half hour ride, and reports indicate they're back home, safe and sound.
Hope you see you out Friday!
