Hello SJAA Members and Friends,
A new moon weekend is upon us, with darker skies. Weather should be favorable too, if the NWS is correct. Hope you have some observing plans; Bonny Doon Airport, the Santa Cruz club's primary site, looks like it will see some photon gatherers on Saturday. I plan to stoke the tiny spark my 9 year old has recently displayed about astronomy, and we'll bring out our scopes into the back yard.
Since it's a dark sky weekend, there are no SJAA events scheduled. The next one is a week from today, on 17 May 2013, which is another in-town star party at Houge Park.
On that same night, we will also hold a board meeting where club business is discussed. The board meetings are usually held the same night as the monthly General Meeting, but this month, we changed it up a little and reschedule it to 17 May, starting at 7PM. As always, the board meeting is open to everyone and you are encouraged to attend and participate.
May's General Meeting will still take place on 25 May, and we got word this week that the guest speaker, author and documentary film maker Timothy Ferris, is confirmed. General Meeting starts with social time at 7:30PM, club business at 8PM and the speaker begins a few minutes later. Should be interesting, be sure to check out his website.
