I'm posting the following on behalf of Bunnie. Do come by and say hi
to him on Aug 27 at HackerspaceSG!
==BEGIN==
Friday, August 27 at 19:30, Andrew "bunnie" Huang of chumby
industries, pte ltd, will be at the Hackerspace in Singapore. chumby
industries has just opened an office in Singapore, and we would like
to get to know our hacker neighbors better. We design quirky embedded
linux computers for cloud-connected consumer electronics. Our hardware
and software are hacker-friendly, as we publish our schematics, design
files, and source code to enable individual innovators like you to be
creative with our devices.
In Friday night's session, bunnie will give a presentation about the
chumby ecosystem, how the device and the servers work, and also take
apart the "chumby One" device and show you its guts. He will also
introduce a new product that is just entering Beta testing, the chumby
hacker board, a product designed specifically to enable hackers like
you to build your own embedded linux systems quickly and cheaply.
Interaction is encouraged, and if you have an itch to hack during the
presentation, bunnie will have a couple devices available for you to
play with. At the end of the presentation, we'll hold a raffle for a
consumer chumby One device and for a free spot in the hacker board
Beta testing program.
chumby industries, pte ltd is looking to hire enthusiastic hackers to
help develop our next generation products here in Singapore. The major
prerequisite for the jobs is a love for coding and building products
that makes users happy. Hacking is a lifestyle: we hope to offer you a
profession that matches your lifestyle. We are looking for hackers
interested in working on or learning about the linux kernel,
applications engineering, user interface programming/design, and
quality automation engineering. If you're interested in a position, or
just curious about what chumby is all about, please do come!
More about bunnie:
Andrew "bunnie" Huang, General Manager of chumby Singapore and VP
Hardware of chumby USA, is a hacker and the hardware lead for chumby;
his responsibilities include the architecture, design and production
of chumby devices, as well as the strategic planning and ecosystem
development of the broader chumby hardware platform. With a PhD in EE
from MIT, he has completed several major projects, ranging from
hacking the Xbox (and writing the eponymous book), to designing the
world's first fully-integrated photonic-silicon chips running at 10
Gbps with Luxtera, Inc., to building some of the first prototype
hardware for silicon nanowire device research with Caltech. He is also
responsible for the un-design of many security systems, with an
appetite for the challenge of digesting silicon-based hardware
security.
