If sub1-sub4 are on the same level of navigation, this is not possible out
of the box. You would either have to insert the group heading somehow with
javascript or css (:before block) or you have to write a custom renderer
which generates the html you need.

I want a single primary item to have multiple groups of sub items
for example:
{primary1}
Sub group name1
{sub1}
{sub2}
Sub group name2
{sub3}
{sub4}
{primary 2}
How do I achieve this ?

This really sounds exactly like a very common use case for using a
jquery/javascript menu plugin. I think I would not go the path to roll my
own solution for this. Rather invest some time to get your head around one
of those frameworks (superfish is pretty easy). Maybe you find some other
plugins here:

I am enjoying the use simple-navigation. I am a rails newbie and this gem
saved me a lot of work. However, my application is growing and my single
horizontal tabbed menu needs to be split up into some sub-menus.
The problem is that of the current examples there does not seem to be one
quite like what I want to do.

I mean for example i have a primary menu option named "books" and two
secondary menu options "fiction" and "action". Depending on external things
when clicking books the url can be redirected to another url. If that
happens the secondary menu options are not expanded. It doesn't work as the
normal menu options (without redirections) that work fine.

Hi I have a problem with simple navigation. In my menu option is defined
one url but depending on other external things (if a user get in for the
first time or not) it has to go to that url or redirect to another one.
When you have to go to the redirected url the simple navigation menu
doesn't work.

please check SimpleNavigation::Helpers#acti ve_navigation_item in the
source code. You can use it for checking if there is an active
subnavigation item.
