We got a Chevy Volt a couple months ago and love it. It's a plugin hybrid with ~55 miles electric range and an internal combustion engine that kicks in after the electric range is exhausted. So far we've driven it 1400 miles and have 3/8 of a tank of gas left.  You can charge it from a 110 volt outlet. That said, we live a five minute walk from a charging station and have been charging for free on the UAlbany downtown campus.
