Well, I think I've got autoWidth working, but does anybody have any
advice on how to make hot zones dynamic?

Most things in a Timeline can be added/changed dynamically, but I'm unsure what you are asking for.
Do you want to adjust the scaling of a portion of the Timeline when events are being shown within that portion? Or do you want to adjust the scale to focus attention on a portion of the timeline - like a fish-eye effect?
