model admin link no there

Hi Guys,

so I recently upgraded to 2.3 (for translatable) and so far very
satisfied, so now I am trying to move over my model admin stuff to the
new version - but the links are not there.

I understand that I have to change protected to public in the class -
which I have done, but nothing appears in the menu, even after
clearing out the cache. I have run a build, and all the fields have
appeared in the database. I cannot access the model admin just typing
in the address that I want.

Is there something else obvious that I am missing?
