The server access log for my own site, when I remove all entries other
than for one of the allowed hotlink sites, is 27.3MB.
[ CNET's Techrepublic, I get a huge amount of readers on any post I
make there. :D The TR staff have openly said I'm one of the more read
members of the community. ]
Yes, I have mentioned ShowMeDo there, and I know some of the TR staff
have even started checking the site out, in addition to the members. A
bit of promoting for ShowMeDo.

You're more than welcome to link to the video, if that boosts your numbers then fair play to you. Telling the right people about the videos is in no way cheating! There's not a lot of point leaving the videos to hide away if you know how to spread the word.

Open Office Writer paged the log file to 7764 pages of entries for
Techrepublic calling 15 different image files from my site for March.
[ US Letter sized pages ]
14 gifs and one jpg, to the tune of 2 gigs of data transfer for the
month.
Can't guarantee any particular amount of traffic, but it can't hurt to
have advertising.
<<thinks waiting a bit before hitting a couple of other community
sites I get a lot of response on with links to showmedo will
buildtraffic a bit slower, allowing for system to be changed to handle
it if needed>>

Re. posting to other sites - yes, spreading the news out would be preferred (and definitely appreciated). Yesterday I posted out another monthly update email to our 5000 members which caused a spike, we also have the article in the new Python Papers which helped with the spike. Two days back we had 2000 visitors, yesterday it was 2400, today I guess it'll be similar.
The site definitely feels slow today - thankfully John has contributed a nice caching patch which ought to speed up things very nicely. I plan to do plumb this in over the next few weeks.
If you can post a link to anything you write I can watch our Analytics and give you some feedback on the number of visitors who come through.
