Dear shogi friends,

In the ESC/WOSC 2009, that was played in Stockholm, the following won the prizes. More detailed results will follow.

Open European Shogi Blitz Championship (30 participants):

1. Kimio Takahashi, Japan, 8/9 points

2. Jean Fortin, France, 7/9 points

3. Peter Kaneko, Sweden, 7/9 points

Rating prizes to: Jean Fortin (1-kyu to 5-kyu), Stéphane Aymonier (6-kyu to 10-kyu), and Therése Jernberg (11-kyu to 20-kyu)

European Shogi Championship (27 participants):

1. Jean Fortin, France

2. Karl Wartlick, Germany

3. Christer Hartman, Sweden

Worldwide Open Shogi Championship (32 participants):

1. Karl Wartlick, Germany, 8/9 points

2. Kimio Takahashi, Japan, 7/9 points

3. Yuji Kikuta, Japan, 7/9 points

Rating prizes to: Jean Fortin (1-kyu to 5-kyu), Nicolas Wiel (6-kyu to 10-kyu), and Therése Jernberg (11-kyu to 20-kyu)

The following players won more than 100 ELO points each:

Jonas Ahlqvist, Sweden, +203 (promoted to 2-kyu)

Nicolas Wiel, France, +136 (promoted to 6-kyu)

Jean Fortin, France, +119 (promoted to 1-kyu; he has to wait a few more games for 1-dan)

Richard Bjerke, Norway, +114

Peder Gedda, Sweden, +114 (promoted to 3-kyu)
